    Hi,

Looking for advise for what plants can be planted in
    1. Low maintance tank (seldom water change, only top up of water)
    2. None air conditioned, think temp in tank is 29 - 30 degrees (tank at home with no air con)
    3. there is GEX soil, so looking for plants grow in soil.
    4. Tank size 2 x 1 x 1
    5. Best can tell me which shop often has it in stock.

Plus can advise me e.g. if I know the name of the plant is there any shop that I can pass them the name and they will know the plant.

E.g. I read that Hygrophila polysperma and bacopa are easy to grow, but I pass the name to the LFS the uncle is like ???

Plus can confirm that the above 2 plants can grow in high temp tanks?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, H. polysperma grows decently in those temperatures. It's a really fast growing and hardy plant, but does really well with good source of N, else starts loosing bottom leaves and gets holey. No idea about the local common name, but you can try shops like Biotope (who usually know plants by their scientific name) in Woodlands. Good idea to call them first, if you don't want to waste the trip.

C328 used to have a plant catalogued book. If they still have it, you can point out what you want.

    No experience with Bacopa.

I have tried growing crypt wendtii, willisii and Anubias barteri in around 30 deg, no CO2. They are well known to be hardy and I think C328 and Seaview have them.

Re: Water plants for high temp tank

I currently have the following plants in my high temperature 2 feet tank:
"Anubias barteri var Nana, var "Gold", "mini" and "Garbon", Crypto Wendtii, Java Fern, Marsilea Hirsuta, Staurogyne sp, Bacopa Monnieri, Hygrophila Polysperma, H.Violacea & H.Corymbosa"
My tank water can be about 32-33C when it is a really hot day but it is about 30c most of the time. I can say that the Hygrophila family plants are doing really well in my tank, I have 3 of them now. You can get it from Seaview for very cheap price of less than 1 gold coin $1 for the Polysperma, and about 1.5 gold coin $1.50 for the remaining 2 members. I have one Bacopa member B. Monnieri in my tank and they are doing fine but they will be better in a brighter light tank than mine. The cost is also below $1 at Seaview. Anubias and Crypto family will likely do well in a high temperature tank as they are doing fine in my tank.

    Aquanoob,

Please stop using coloured notes and coins. $1 is $1. $10 is $10. Read this!

    Thanks.

I recommend some rotala, they are my favorites plants. I think 29-30 is not considered as high for rotala, and they can be used in various ways.

Re: Water plants for high temp tank

I am just sharing my experience with my own tank with the plants. I put in Seachem Excel, micro and macro fertiliser regularly into my tank, but I tried before even without putting them, the plants are still doing fine. If you want a good foreground plant, then you can try out the so-called "Poor man glosso", Marsilea Hirsuta. It will form a nice lawn even in a high temperature tank. I use that together with Staurogyne to create a foreground in my tank.

Re: Water plants for high temp tank

I have those broad leaf Java Fern and Anubias sp tie to driftwood too and they are doing fine now. Initially I have Anubias sp with rotting leaves and rhizome, so I took them out of tank and re-introduced them back after several weeks of recovery and growth outside the tank. If my reading is correct, the Java fern will grow out new leaves when the old leaves are brown or die and drop off. It is simply a preparation for the new growth.
