    Hi

I got a Hailea 300A Chiller for my 75 gallon tank. Can I put the Chiller at the suction/inlet line of Eheim 2217.

Why I am asking this because the outlet of Eheim 2217 is of 12/16mm size . However the inlet of Eheim is 16/22 mm which matches with the chiller inlet line of same size.

What could be the problem if I put the chiller in inlet/suction line of the filter.

    Regards
    Kakaz

    Re: Chiller Question

    OK I try to clarify.

Water Flows from Tank to Chiller by syphon then inlet to Filter and then pumped back to Tank. A flow diagram is attached.

Afraid that debries will stuck on your chiller and in time will reduce it efficiency

Agree. You could you a hose reducer connector to connect from a larger diameter hose to a smaller diameter hose or vice versa.

    Re: Chiller Question

As bernie said, to purify the water before it getting into chiller is welcomed, through either sponge intake or prefilter.
    A diagram for your reference:

    Re: Chiller Question

Should put a prefilter or filter before the chiller.

    Re: Chiller Question

    HI kakaz,

Do you have a picture on how you connect your Aquanic 1500 to your chiller? I am also thinking to do that but not sure how to do it. Anyway my tank is only a 31L tank, so im thinking if the flow is too strong for my tank.

    Thanks.

    Re: Chiller Question

I connected the output of aquanic powerhead to chiller inlet thru a 13/17 hose with a adapter to fit 16/22 nipple of the chiller inlet and outlet of chiller returned to tank. However for your tank you need a small chiller and you can run by outlet flow of a cannister like E 2213.

    hi kakaz,

thank you for your reply. however i would also like to connect to a power head like you as my canister is only a 2211 and the flow rate is not sufficient to run a chiller i assume. Maybe i would try your method.

    Re: Chiller Question

Powerhead + chiller is a fast way to run a chiller and buncoed by many shops.

    Pros:

    1.Easy installation.

    Cons:

    1. Powerhead is inside the tank. As we knew, the best way to smudge your tank scope is by adding more device into the tank. The powerhead will do it rudely;
    2. Powerhead free 100% heat into the tank at cost of extra running time of chiller, meanwhile extra bill.
    3. Not so good flow rate since there do have big amount of water behind the powerhead need to push away. The best position for a pump is close to the outlet----the water before pump inlet can reach there by themselves, which is called siphon.
    4. The water to chiller is not filtered. The heat-exchange tank inside the chiller will be clogged or at least at risk of.

Recommendation: Water intake in tank > prefilter > chiller > pump > outlet in tank
