What form of substrates are you using? or rocks, something is leaching into your water column. I wouldn't mind it personally however.
OK, I'm a little stumped here.
My 3-ft planted tank is about 2 months ago and 2 weeks ago I tested my pH. It's about 7.2
I realized that my kH is very low: 2kH
So, I raised my kH to 5kH and I think it should be 6kH by now.
I have been pouring pH-down solution for the past 2 weeks and the pattern always goes like this:
- pH goes to 7.0
- Next day, goes back to 7.2, sometimes 7.3
Today, it's pH is 7.4!
I have almost exhausted the entire pH solution bottle and it's not solved.
Have I missed out anything?
As an information, I have about 30+ Cardinal Tetras, 2 Rummy nose, 15+ Yamatos, 20+ X-Rays and sucker fishes. I pour about 10ml of liquid CO2 everyday.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he will drink beer while getting sunburnt.
It's the normal Amazonia sand. I've cleaned my filter and I added some new peat, let's see what happen tomorrow.
Shouldn't high KH buffer the water thats why high pH?
If the pH ranges between 7.2 and 7.4, I won't say it is unstable but just a bit high pH. Anyway, your fauna should do fine at this range.

Did you tried any RO water? Guess it might solve your problem
OK, this is new, what's RO water?
It's nothing new bro.
It's reverse osmosis. It is free of mineral. You can buy a RO filter which cost up to hundreds and also able to let your family drink or just to NTUC buy PURE water. The TDS is below 50ppm/.
Hope I might be of help
hi nkthen,
I'm also facing the same problem in my jewel tank whereby the pH is always so high around 7.5 and like nkthen i pour my pH down sol and the pH just drops.
I'm using normal gravel with a mixed of white quartz with brown/black fine rocks. I don't know whats the problem some help please![]()
I believe that the river gravel does affect the PH within your tank.
Your gravel may contain high percentage of lime chips so that caused your PH to rise.
Solusion is replace the river gravel with soil then the PH will more suitable for plants.
