I got it from my nearby LFS which is at yishun 716 and I bought 19l which is everything the shop has.. I know the information and even contacted the japan for more info regarding this soil. It is a new product which was release somewhere in Nov 2010. This soil has 0ppm ammonia and the japanese said they would just throw in shrimp after few hours of running.
Some info about our conversation
Me;
Hi,
I have just purchased a packet of H.E.L.P Advanced soil. May I know how long
does the cycle of the soil needs as I am currently keeping some sensitive
good grade CRS aka Crystal red shrimp thus I can't afford to have any hip
cup.
Thanks
Japan;
thank you very much for your inquiry as to our Advanced Soil.
According to your question below, we assume you are using this type of substrate, soil, for the first time. Would you like to know how long does the soil keep (shelf life)?
It actually depends on the size of your aquarium tank, quantity of shrimps, the water condition of your raw water and the like. Generally, however, we ourselves, our clients, and most shrimp breeders in Japan exchange soil when they see the following indications:
Compared to before,
- shrimps do not eat well,
- water plants, do not grow well, and/or
- shrimps/fish do not lay eggs or breed well.
Water pH is the most important factor for breeding shrimps. The most efficient value is supposed to be between 5.5 and 6.5, and our Advanced Soil targets that value.
If you would like to obtain more information, you could do so by looking at our website. If you have not visited yet, please check it out.

Also, if you provide us with more information such as the size of your tank, the quantity of your shrimps, and pH of your raw water, we could give you more precise advice according to your situation. If we may ask, would you let us know where you purchased Advanced Soil?
Again, thank you very much for your interest in our Advanced Soil. We look forward to serving you again.
This soil is constantly keeping my PH at 6-6.5. Very effective PH for those sensitive breed...
It doesn't cloud the water too. I placed some base fertilizer before lying the advanced soil.
*It does very tedious to type out H.E.L.P without the caps on. Lol
Cheers.
Nice setup... Looking forward to see how your plants grow... Keep us update...
Updates are on the way. Beware. It's not for the faint-hearted. Lol
Hi, looking forward on your update.

In the first picture, where then HC is still in mats, how do you keep them on the bottom? Mine always float up to the surface.
Some updates.
Comment are welcome...
Cheers

nice wild looking growth ")
wondering if you might have flatten the slop? Personal view, the wood on the right looks kinda out of place "P, will it be better to remove the wood and shift the plants to the left as background?
looking forward to more update ")
Some update. Changed some layout of the branches

Hi, nice wild looking tank. i've always like wild looking tank.

I also like the new layout more than the old one. The old one has the single piece of wood on the back right hand corner; kind of out of place I think.
Does it look nicer? The scape is almost completed. Tonight will be planting some hairgrass around the root area.
Do you think I should get more lights? My current light is front 2x55w PL light and back is 2x10w T8 light. Wonder if I change the back light to 2x55w PL light, will it be inviting algae?
Cheers
