Im afraid its not staurogyne.. anyway , this plant will grow just as well under lower light.. just that it will slightly taller..

    Here's mine :

They receive good lightings of 4x54watt T5HO(tank is 2ft deep) for 10hours every day.. slightly shaded by those driftwood..

Staurogyne repens is available at Seaview. I have it in my 4ft as a main foreground though a bit slow to crawl. Ill try to post some pix later.
They are quite hardy based on some articles I've read, but mine is high tech tank with 4X54W T5 so I can't really testify on it's hardiness.

They are very hardy, no issue with it in my low-tech except it being taller than usual.
Apistoinka: That is the effect when you mix glosso with staurogyne as shown in EvolutionZ's picture, but you can achieve the same effect with Marsilea Hirsuta too.

Before changing my substrate to ADA Amazonia 2 soil recently, the staurogyne is planted in black quartz and they still do well. I think it is ok to put them in sand.

I'd planted them in sand initially but they just grow upwards and doesn't creep...excel not dose regularly though...

Apistoinka, you should start another new discussion on glosso so that the glosso expert and grower can address your issue. I see many glosso supporters around and your problem will be solved.

Re: About foreground plant ( staurogyne )

Hi, sorry to bring up an old thread. I bought a "cup" of Staurogyne from Seaview recently. It came in a plastic pot rolled into a sponge. When I tried to remove the sponge, realised that the roots of the plant had grown through the different layers of sponge. After some tugging and ripping, managed to finally remove most of the sponge. However, I then realised that the different stalks of Staurogyne had all grown intertwined too thickly to be removed manually. In addition, several roots were also ripped off and some small stalks of Staurogyne were separated from the main plants. Will the small stalks and the bigger stalks with the ripped off roots grow out new roots if I leave them to float instead of planting them in immediately? In addition, anyone knows where I can buy loose form staurogynes, other than the Buy/Sell section? I find it quite frustrating having to remove plants manually from the pots, especially since most of the time, the plant roots have already grown into the sponge.

Don't worry about tearing stems or roots accidentally. The stem itself will grow root if you submerged them into the soil. They are hardy plants. As a matter of fact, if I find the roots too long, I will cut it off to avoid its messy "tails". I also bought mine from SEAVIEW and it came in single stalks with many stems. I reaped them apart and replanted into the soil. They did just as well and growing new stems and roots. I used scisors to cut off the new stems and planted them separately, that is how I spread them in my midground. I also tie the stems on the rocks/dw with mosses, their aerial roots will try to reach out for the soil but its leaves still look as green as fresh. Very hardy plant to try.

Hi bro Bluebubbles. Thanks for the re-assuring write-up and the tips for planting. Will go home and redo the scape. Just bought a packet of jhg to add in as well.

Re: About foreground plant ( staurogyne )

My personal experience is that for gloss or high light requirement plant to grow well, you should aim for 2 watts to 3 watts per gallon for the lighting. In addition, the light tube should be the 6500K type. However, high light will mean you need to provide sufficient fertilizer dosage and be diligent in your water change. I used to grow glosso in a 2 feet tank having a total light wattage output of 72W and doing weekly 1/3 water change.

Re: About foreground plant ( staurogyne )

I find staurogyne to be very easy to grow... and in my tanks, it spreads fast enough. Seems to like cooler water because i find it grows faster.

As for glosso, I think i dont have enough light because i cannot get it to creep/crawl over the substrate as low as i want to.

I had the chance to see bro veggie's glosso in his tanks... and i was very envious how they were creeping all over.
