I am using distilled water for water change but mix with tap water to achieve the lower ph..
hi i use GEX soil and my pH is around 5-5.5Or I think trusted brands of water softeners should work too? Or worse come to worse use pH buffers

My setup currently now is a biotope setup and I'm using sudo bottom sand... But I'm kepatang leaves n peat filtration yet still can't get the result... If I were to rescape which soil will be the best to maintain the ph... Using those ph lower liquid solution does it work???
Thanks bro for the info... Thanks alot...

Black water extract, filtering with peat, adding ketapang leaves will all lower your water ph.
If you're using peat / k-leaves, try placing them in your filter to maximize the effect.
Another way is to add a couple of pieces of driftwood (since you're scaping anyway). But be warned, they will stain your water a yellowish-brown, which some people like.

I used seachem PH buffer powder for my discus.

try using Peat. Au Naturel =D
I use peat, quite effective.
I used ADA II soil plus driftwoods too....
Driftwoods and ketapang leaves will lose it's Ph lowering properties very quickly. ADA soil and peat will take a much longer time to lose it's Ph lowering properties. As for blackwater extract..... it'll maintain it's Ph in the water as long as you don't change water or if you top up the blackwater in the tank after you change water. By the way does the instruction label on the blackwater extract tell you need to use how much ml of blackwater for XX amount of tank water so as to lower XX amount of Ph or is it a trail and error thing?

I used both the seachem Acidic buffer and peat to lower down, but cannot lower down to fast, about 0.5 per day. Problem is during WC, tap water has PH of 7.5 to 7.8 even after a few days.

Could anyone advise me on the average PH, kH and Cl level of tap water in Singapore? I just came here from Vietnam and set up a new tank and I feel my plants are not growing well. I don't have the water test kit.
Tks for your help!

see this website on the PH adjustment:

Well so after all pro here still use Ada Amazonia 2 soil... Well how long do I have to wait after using soil, peat and k-leaves to achieve low ph level... Someone did mention that using black water extract... Does it remain low ph if we didn't did a water change...
By the way if use gex soil which colour pack of soil will achieve low ph...
what media did you use for your filtration?

I'm just using those air bubble sponge filter... So there is no media at all bro... Guess I reali need to put peat n k-leaves too...

I think you try to include some lava rocks into the tank also one option.
Fish keeping is not a good hobby unless you received support from your family to keep them.
i've added some Sera Super Peat (in a bag) into my Eheim external canister filter. i understand that peat will naturally lower the pH level. however, after a month or so, my tank's (standard 2 feet) pH level is still at 7. questions;
1. how much of peat is considered optimum?
2. is the placement of the peat bag in the filter really matters... as in whether it should be above or below the ceramic rings or filter sponge?
3. will the Seachem Prime cancels out the peat effect?
