    Do yamato shrimps really eat algae ? We can easily c their claw are always picking on the algae, but if they eat algae, their stomach should have some algae like green substance or other algae. But their stomach i alway notice is alway transparent. Y huh ?

    err, where do you thing their stomach is?
    why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Of course they do eat algae and decomposing plant matter. However, if they do not have enough algae, they'll starting picking on those fine leafed plants. My Blyxa japonica is suffering abit now, thanks to these damn shrimps, urgh!

    dun doubt the effectiveness of Yamato shrimp. My tank used to have infected by hair algae. After I introduced yamato shrimps ( 10 of them), they cleaned up all the plants within a couple of hours. After than, no more algae on the plants. No sure why their stomach is transparent, maybe the algae is also transparent mah.

    Well, if you look closely, you can see an intestinal tract that runs pretty close to what I believe to be the simple vascular trunk near the dorsal surface.

    Occsaionally, you can also see the poo coming out near the anal region. It is usually dark green in colour.

    Yamato eat algae for sure.

    I bought ten of them and they finished half of my green hair algae on the rock after one or two days.

    Hope that there is sufficient food for them before they start picking on my plants.
