I guess most common light set seen in most fish shops are from aquazona...

however the standard light bulbs are 12000k.. I read that plants thrive better in 6500k or 8000k lights..

I was at sera and saw the many different colour of light bulbs they have.. however the price is really scary at $40.00 per tube..

I am using 8x 24w t5 for my 2 x 2 x 2 ft tank..

Is it advisable to change the bulbs? are there cheaper alternative brand that you guys have tried?

What more important is correct spectrum of FL bulb. You can get very good result in plant growth even from normal domestic FL bulb like Philips or Osram. Select spectrum between 4000 K to 6500k and mix them.

I beleive light intensity is OK with your tank.

maybe I can change 2 of the bulbs to 6500k and see how?
