Apple Snail and its ability to kill planaria

Hi everyone,

I recently read up that apple snail does eat planaria. Any one has any experience of apple snail effectively eating planaria? I am having some serious planaria infest-ion and i am thinking of adding the apple snail to my tank.

Another question is does apple snail breed or lay eggs in ph6.5-7 gh6-8 water perimeter.

I would say no it will not eat planaria i have both type those colourful one (which doesn't eat anything except snatching the food from my shrimp) And those wild brown zebra apple snails which will bulldozer over whatever plants u have in your tank and u might wake up to a brighter tank cause light can pass thru.

They do however does eat hydra only those hydra that all sitting on the plants not the colourful one but the wild zebra as for the those hydra sitting on the glass hmm nothing able to remove them except maybe betta etc.

Thank you. Looks like i have to look for other solutions. The planaria is getting more. I have to manually squash them with my fingers. Anyway do you have any ideas of getting rid of them apart from using medication? mine is a shrimp tank..

The more u squash the more they multiply do not squash them. Siphon them out out into another contrainer and dose chemical there try not to dose into tank. I think i suspect why your multiply cause u squash them you should watch the video one of the forumer is sharing about them.

Damn. Yeah i only heard that squashing them will cause the to multiply. Damn! anyway i will try to siphon them when i do a watch change. I am seeing more of them since they are multiplying. Irritating to the max

Have you looked into panacur? Its a type of de wormer for cats and dogs and you simply dose into the tank to remove the planaria.

Is it shrimp safe? mine is a shrimp tank! don't want any casualties.

Yes it is shrimp safe, but not snail safe. So if you have any fancy snails etc. However what I would do is this.

Allow medication and keep the shrimps in a tub or another tank while medication works and then perform water change and reintroduce shrimps after the water change.

ok. thank you for the advice. Let me see if thats the last resort i have to use. I am now trying to feed less and do more water changes.

u may wanna try the above product which is quite new. i tried it on my Cherries tank and CRS tank. work within 1 day and the shrimps are all well.

Although the product shows a big shrimp picture but i have heard some breeders mention its not really shrimps safe. So if yours is high grade better not use it. Anyway seems that my planeria issue had gone away. I did some regular water changes and feed less.
