does all tank behave the same in cycling stage?
i m trying to start a new tank with alot of plant in cycling stage, but experience from my smaller tank tells me that in cycle stage plant seems to die off, leafs rotten then new leaf then full bloom. is this the normal behavier or something is wrong?
do i need to cut off the rotten leaf/s or leave them alone?
help pls cos almost starting the tank soon( forgot about the cycling stuff when i bought the plant ).

    Hi Voodoo,

I may not be the best person to answer your question but from my limited knowledge, I have not experienced plant die off or rot during cycling of tank. Maybe there is other factors (deficiency in minerals and other nutrients) that contributed to your plant rotting and die off.

From what I know, cycling process, is a period where bacteria in the water develop in your aquaria. Some people introduces a couple of fishes to accelerate the process and some uses off-the-shelf solution.

What is your setup like? Do you have enough lighting period and CO2 injection? What type of plants you have in your tank? Maybe you can be more specific and asked the senior aquarist here in AQ.

my 2 feet tank is doing very well now, so i dun think lights and fert is the problem or water parameter.
what i m not sure is that will it happen again ( plant leaves dying) if i set up my 4 feet tank. cos it is only my second tank, still not very sure on cycling of the tank.

the plants may rot off usually bcoz they were emersed form. when fully submerge or introduced to new climate or change, some plants would start to rot.its natural.sooner new shoots would form and will grow normally.. better to cut come of the leaves which are already rottin(leaves tat r ok dont disturb)
    hope it helps

It depends on how you setup your tanks, there is never 2 tanks that are similar i'll say it'll somehow differ from each to each tank.

Using back the old filter and doing a new setup will shorten the cycling cycle, thats what i've observe which is faster than setting it up from zero.

Plants rotting may have quite a few reason, it might be trying to adapt to the new enviorment which is too harsh for them . Not all emerse cultured plants will rot before sprouting new leaf, some just transform with no rotting.

I believe with the correct requirement your plants should be fine after a week or so .

    my 2cts worth.

    Cheers!
