Hi. Considering these 2 soils for keeping CRS n BDS for some time now but still cant make up my mind. I'm doing a basic shrimp tank with mainly moss. Pls let me know your reviews/experience(cycling time, survival rate, breeding, colour etc..) on these soils. Thanks!

It took me a week and a half to cycle ADA II Amazonia.. I've had no problems with my CRS in it so far..

Thanks for your review. May I know what colour is the soil? Is it close to black or just brown in colour?

There is a powder type? Haha!

I'm using the normal granule-type soil. Each soil granule is about the size of the head of a thumb-tack or slightly bigger

Maybe I can help you further.. I'll link a youtube video of my small tank, so you can see. I'm using the soil there...

Yes.. there's a new type and they call it powder. Actually it's not really powder, just smaller granule soil.

Anw, nice setup you have there! You tied your own moss wall? Are you using US fissiden for your whole tank?

Re: Benibachi Crimson or ADA Amazonia II soil?

Old filter media, however.. I washed, rinsed and sun-dried it prior to this cycling due to my previous set up being poisoned by unquarantined plants.

So you can consider it new filter media as any bacteria in the filter media previously would have died from my 'detox-ing'

Within 4 days the ammonia spiked and went to zero, then within 5 days from that the nitrite went to zero.

The recommended cycling period for an ADA II soil is around 2 weeks. But I over-filtered the tank.. so maybe that resulted in a slightly faster cycling? I used 2 additional hang-on filters in addition to my canister filter during the cycling process, then removed the 2 hang-on filter after it was cycled..

Also just to add, this set up also contains completely brand new soil. I threw away the previous soil that was in there. I also washed the tank with hot water just to be extra sure.

So in all shape and form.. this can be considered a completely new set up

Yup.. best to use eveything new for new setup. If not whatever that's in the previous tank will be in the new tank.

I like how the benibachi soil work and the look of Ada 2 powder soil.

I am thinking if it is good to use both soil?
Maybe benibachi on bottom and Ada 2 on top.
    Will there any implication?
