Yes, definitely algae. It will pretty much only grow on wood and if you give it time to cover the driftwood, it is actually quite nice.

Hard to get rid off in tank. I used to pluck them off tuft by tuft. You other option is to take out the driftwood, kill it with hot water, then scrub the wood clean. My yamatos and SAEs didn't seem to touch it.

    Personally, I'd keep it.

Never seen it grow on plants before, usually on driftwood.

    very nice algae...

yupz, this kind wont grow on plants, but the brownish ones will... be careful!

I think when Aquamart was at Aljunied very long ago, they had a planted tank with a driftwood covered with such algae!

i think plantas also have one like that now if i did not remember wrongly...

I had the same type of algae previously. Use to get them on my crinium and balansae too. Took the whole wood out and soaked it in 1 part chlorine bleach and 19 parts water. After that, they all turned white and the wood was never plagued with this algae again.

Here's a picture of the after bleaching effect. Took a while for the white bits to fall off.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
