Very nice aus stormhawk. Good luck with them I have 3 fry at the moment, the parents were lost the week I got them but managed to get some eggs before that!

RonWill: I am happy to send you some eggs from here just to get you back into killies again! What would you like?

Thanks for the egg offer, Serkan. I've never been a free-loader anywhere but presently, am not in the best of financial position to afford better prices for the egg-list you may have.

Asking me what I'd like is equally 'dangerous' since we all already know how addictive killie-keeping can be but there's no chance I'd want to maintain 30 species again like in the past! Gosh... that amount of husbandry can't be funny or sane!! [either that or I've forgotten to take my meds]

Perhaps you can PM me a list of what you have, together with the prices, and I'll see what I can afford. Wishing for Diapteron, Aphyosemion elberti or Terranatos dolichopterus probably isn't gonna get me anywhere!! FWIW, these were the species I failed before taking a hiatus from killie-keeping.

I still have a soft spot for Chromaphyosemion but do shoot me something to browse through, consider or drool on. I'd still enjoy that!

BTW, you guys have been very encouraging but... real friends will pull another friend from the edge of the cliff, not happily giving him a shove off the deep end, without so much as a bungee cord!!!

Shifus are redundant when fence-sitters do not take the initiative and make the path for others. Heck, even old bulls can get tired from all that shagging!!

I would suggest that you gather those who are keen in killie-keeping and consolidate a private order from Aquabid. Our resident advisor, Stormhawk, might be able to narrow down which sellers to dabble your luck with. As always, buying eggs can be a draw of luck and Mother Nature's whim, especially during hot months. Keep us updated.

    Re: Old is Gold

now i've been buying my stocks from ebay and aquabid. most of the times my prefs are not the same with other people so i usually buy them myself. got 30+ fries right now doing well with 1 casualty since they all hatched. but i am getting tired as they dont want to switch yet to pellets. they only want to eat live feeders and getting tired of hatching bbs every 2 or 3 days. so now i need advice from guys like you to help me switch them or find easy to acquire food for them as i believe they are big enough to eat other feeds. just that they are still too choosy.

Having a different taste is not a crime and fortunately, there's ample genus of killies to keep everybody happy. So which killie species did you wet and how's their hatch rate (fry:egg count)?

Raising fry from eggs will always require some work but to some, that's a labor of love. Once they large enough, you can try crushed pellets but it's also likely that non-live foods will be gleefully ignored.

BTW, the plural for fry is still fry. Fries is what you order at McDonald's!

Haha you got me there bro. Ok fry it is. The seller mention he sent me a mix of N.Egg (Red,Yello,Blue) N.Rach, N.Jub and N.Korth. I am really not sure if he included all the species and varieties but I am still happy that I hatched around 37 Out of supposedly 50 eggs. And out of which 1 of the belly sliders died . I dont know if I lost count while counting them as I was in a conversation with my wife while counting them. And also I dont know if I really received all the 50 as they were mixed with the peat when I received them. 100% they have been ignoring crushed pellets that I offered 3 consecutive mornings. In the end I did not want them to starve so give them bbs on those days also.

OH NO! ROJAK..... Is the eggs sent to you from Thailand? I think you started on the wrong path... For killifish, we do not cross-breed from different location code not even on sub-species.

Yeah, I was wrong to buy it. I initially thought that the seller will place them in six containers to separate the eggs from each species/strain. But still my fault for not asking for such details. That is why I was asking for help on properly segregating them. Don't worry I wont be breeding this batch or at least those that I cannot identify. Besides, this is just pure hobby, no intention of selling.

    Re: Old is Gold

No worries Eric. I had a similar wipeout when my mum used this pyrethrin-based insecticide to deal with ants in my home... apparently the fumes got into the water somehow and killed some of my tetras in the main tank.

That aside, the pair are spawning, but eggs do not seem to be fertile. Either the male is a dud, or I need to gut load the grindals further with some fish food instead of their usual oatmeal. My campomaanense eggs arrived last weeks but some of the eggs had already fungused by then. Just crossing my fingers and hoping the remaining 7-8 or so eggs pull through.

Hello Au, been very long since I've seen you post, and in real life too. How is everything? I still remember your Megalebias in the small tub by the window.

Daguldfisher, it would be advisable to start acquiring a grindalworm and/or microworm culture soon. If you do not trust tubifex worms and your fry are still too small to handle frozen bloodworm, then you should give grindals a try. They are very easy to culture and a small box of worms will produce enough worms for daily feedings to your fish and fry. The microworms will come in handy when your BBS is still in the hatchery as a in-between feeding. The fry tend not to feed on immobile objects like crushed pellets. Oddly my australe are actually taking pellet food with their usual grindalworm and the occasional adult brine shrimp or daphnia.

    Re: Old is Gold

Thanks for the advise bro. But currently my wife dont allow me to culture worms yet as there is not much space in our current place. Need 2 months more before I get my proper space for my tanks and related stuffs. Unless I get my precious australes that I've been itching to buy very soon. It seems that the bigger ones are now trying to eat whatever is edible for them in the tank. I hope when the females and late hatchers grow bigger they will all switch to pellets. By the way my real name is Andy. Some of my friends call me Dagul. Just read some posts about using your real name in this forum.
