Take care of your water, and your water will take care of your fish. Clear water may not be clean water. To obtain good water quality, nothing beat water change.

er contaminated specimen means that there are other fish mixed with the bag of fishes that the lfs has bought. Let say the lfs bought a bag of 100pcs of cardinal but there may be some other fishes in that bag that was accidentally mixed in. Not that the water is dirty.
