Just bought a used eheim 2026 and am puzzled by its design. For a start it cannot be fitted with a shut off tap. However the inlet and outlet is referred to as double tap in the part list. Refer to the attacment. Can someone enlighten me if these are indeed double taps and how does it work. The other concern is how can i disconnect the hose from the filter without spilling the water ( which can normally be solved by using a quick joint tap directly mounted on the inlet and outlet of filter). But 2026 looks impossible to have them fitted. Is there any website that explains in details functions of the various parts of the filter?. I tried looking up the website but not much luck.

That is suppose to be the in/outlet of the canister.. It will close the in/outlet when you control the flow to close it, then there is a red tab to lock the in/outlet so that water won't flow out and you can do the maintenance of the canister like washing or changing filter pad...

By the way, it doesn't act as a double tap valve.. It just lock the water in the hose to prevent water from continuing flowing out when 'servicing' the canister.. If you are looking for a double tap valve, you are still needed to purchase it.. And for the 2026, you will need a 16/22 double tap valve..

I suppose that the lever between the inlet and outlet can be used to shut the valve and this will stop the continuous flow of water from tank to cannister. If that is correct than i suppose i need to remove the pump head before i could carry away the cannister for servicing. Is there any chance of wetting the floor while doing this.
Alvin you mentioned the doubletap method which i often came across in the forum. Like to know more details. If i connect the double tap i suppose i do not need to remove the pump head. By the way dont quite understand the need for a double tap when a single tap suffice. Should all the tap be set at closed position before removing the cannister?. What can i do if filter unable to self prime?.

If you close the flow on the canister then you just press the red tab on the canister & continue to close the flow, the in/outlet will be disconnected and you can just remove the canister with the power head away to do the cleaning/servicing..

hey that is an ancient double tap design.. never seen it before . 2026 are quite easy to setup just that you need lots of strength pushing the hose in place. do you ahve all the stuff in place. any pictures? you should have the housing, 2 pipe(25/34 and 16/22), 2 hang on pipe, 1 elbow, a pump and optional is the double tap or shut off valve.
