The rocks are too small..need to prop them up abit because they will be covered by the plants

Hi recently set up a 1 feet cube tank. I THINK it is iwagumi concept? Anyway, please give tips on how i can improve on it as i feel there is still something lacking.Attachment 22869Attachment 22870Attachment 22871Attachment 22872
Stuff i used :
*JBL aquabasis, florapol and crushed volcanic rock for base
*ADA amazonia substrate
*Dragon rocks which took me whole day to wash(due to all the mud stuck in all the holes)
*Glosso in foreground and Regular hairgrass in background
*White oyama paper
*Boyu ef05 mini canister
*Regular white cotton and ANS ceramic rings for filter medium
*Illumax 1 feet lamp
*Cyliner CO2 using ANS diffuser
*Mini cooling fan
*About 1 cap of potassium from EIHO
Currently water conditions are ok for now.(fishless cycled for about 3days with alternate days 30% water change)
Bacteria cloud phase already passed( i used mosura bioplus to speed up the progress)
pH: 6.4
GH: 5
KH: 6
NO2/NO3: 0.1
NH3/NH4: 0

The role of master and servant begin to cloud in the water..

hmm ok shall pull them up by 1 or 2 cm.
you can also use smaller leafed foreground plants to make the whole setup and your rocks look bigger and more spacious.

My tank is not in an air conditioned room. the tempreature tends to vary between 26-28. The other small leaved plant that i can think of is HC and i doubt it will grow well in that kind of tempreature. HM is my other choice however i am afraid of it growing upward when the brightness of my lamp decreases.

HC will grow at that temp, I try it before, as long as you have plenty of CO2 and no fauna to disturb it during initial stage

My HC did grow well at around 28 degree C. Most impt is sufficient light and CO2 or they will grow tall and not creep at all.
Went through it and did a lot of replanting to learn this...
HM confirm will grow very tall.
This is what happened to my HM. Just to share...

Like the way your hair grass grow, very natural! Way to go. As for the foreground u can try some to add fissiden or moss mesh and lay them in the fore ground?

@Shadow: Oh well didn't have good experience growing HC at those tempreatures compared to the HC i grow in cool water thats why.The HC i grew at those tempreatures grow very slowly and the leaves very skinny. Anyway its a bit too late to change now as the glosso already spreading.
@jeffteo: yes that is what i am afraid of. In my main tank when i plant HM right under the light, they crawl like glosso, but in slightly lower light only they grow just like your ones. Irritating especially when i wanted them to be my foreground and they end up covering the tank.
@equidorz: thank you. But just to inform you, those hairgrass are just planted in a few days ago. Sort of cheated as i expect the hairgrass to be slower than glosso, so i got more of them and just squeeze in as much as i can to prevent the glosso from overtaking the hairgrass.
As for the fissiden, personally i do not like having "un-natural" stuff like wire mesh in my tank. And my tank is in quite high tempreature also, not really sutiable for mosses like fissiden.
Will post more recent pictures of the tank soon, the glosso are creeping already with shoots about 2-3cm long coming out from the side. Hairgrass however is as expected, quite slow, only a few shoots visible.

Didn't know that HM can grow low. Always thought that it is a mid and background plant. No wonder after trimming and adjusting of the light nearer over it and it didn't grow as fast as before.

Good luck then. Just provide Strong light and CO2 and they will creep. and also trim off anything that is above your expected carpet height. sooner or later they will become a carpet but will grow tall again when the lights dimm due to age

Some updated pictures of my tank.As you can see, the glosso already spread. Added golden tetra and some of my cull cherries in

Thank you very much!

I like the rocks within the grass look. It will be nice if the rock is higher a bit or after trimming the hair grass. Why not dwarf hair grass in the first place? Regular hair grass will grow too tall for a small tank.

I already pulled the rock abit higher. Any higher and the rock will have to be floating already
Wanted that..but the price of dwarf is almost twice that of regular hairgrass. Just add a few cents more and it would be twice. As I am on a pretty tight budget, decided to get regular ones.
I think i can use light control to make it short. At most i trim most often only.

Not sure if mine is dwarf hair grass but it not growing that fast in my tank, if you don't mind I can pass a few to you to cultivate?

Maybe not now. Will contact you if i want some. I am going to re-do a 4 feet farming tank soon. May add dwarf hairgrass into the list of plants to farm.
