This is my first time Going for HC trial.
from another thread under plant section, after 3rd day set up, some turns dark green, i guess lighting is not long enough from shadow's comment.

feel free for comments and improvements will add in vivipara/vennisrella and tennuslus once HC is back to normal

    Cheers

    Re: First HC scape

Our ambient temperature can fluctuate from 28 degree to 34 degree Celsius, a fan will not be able to maintain a stable temp at 26C.

You bought your HC emerged ? those packets with HC on sponge / wire mesh?

did you try DSM ( dry start method )? it works better that way for emerged HC to grow.

    Re: First HC scape

I did not have luck with HC even I used a chiller back then. Can see that you have CO2, some people blasted CO2 at the initial phase. I did not have pressurized CO2 last time maybe that's one of the reason I could not grow them.

Dark green..are they melting? Not a good sign.

    Re: First HC scape

growing HC is CO2, CO2 and CO2 , not much of temperature. i see that you are using soil, good, which soil is that?

Would you like comment on the scape?

DSM is try method. Basically you grow the HC emerse not submerge. It grow faster and no need care about CO2, plenty CO2 in the air. However, I personally don't like the method. Been trying 3 time but about 2 months after submerge the emerse leaf start to turn yellow. New leaf still growing on top the old one but the root can't reach the substrate. Thus after about 4 months slowly it start to float. I'm not sure if others experience the same thing or just me

    Re: First HC scape

    Hi shadow,
thanks for sharing, i read up the dsm method, but wondering if our climate allows that as temp. is always hovers around 30degrees and as what you mentioned, once submerged, it will be back to the same cycle like melting?

i turn on the CO2 to 3bbps and see how

    today 4th day to it:

    and this is the readings:

    1) PH 6.0
    2) KH-1
    3) NO3 10
    4) NH4 - SPIKE BACK TO 4.0
    5) LIGHTING 2 X T5 8hours

day 1-3 was quite a blunder as i was not at home, forgot to set my timer and ask somemone to on for only 3 hours lighting and wonder if it affects the plants. C02 suddenly went off

i have no idea why sometimes my bubble counter bbp somtimes will slow down? Could it be due to the regulator?

How big is your tank? try tornado fan. I have my 2feet tank hovering below 27 degree for a week now and my new weeping moss is showing sign of new growth on every leaf tip.

Yes its OK even in our climate. I try that but without enclosure (cling wrap). I spray water twice a day before and after office.

Now a days, I grow the normal way. I did not experience the melting with normal way. I'm not sure whether it is just my luck or other also experience the same.
