I need help! i think my tank setup screw up.

    Below are my setup steps:

    1. Put in sand, salt and mix the water. Saltinity okie then let the water cycle for 1 week with filteration turned on.

    2. Bought some LR and put in after one week and then put a dead prawn in the tank the next day (because market close after i finish deco the LR).

After i put in the dead prawn, the water start become smelly and i first thought that was fine because the amonia thing might be started. Then i found out that all the worms, prawn, crab inside the LR all coming out and now all dying!! I checked the amonia level and it's very high and the tank now is super smelly.

So, do i just left the water like tat or my tank setup screw up already. I'm thinking of changing the water cause it's too smelly that i can't sit at the living room and watch TV

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

    Hi Proms

    - May I know how big is your tank ? and what type of fiteration are u employing ?

    - If your tank is small, I think you should put in a small chop piece of prawn rather than throw in the whole piece of it

    - From the way u describe, it seems that your tank water is really quite bad....I would have change the water

    1. Put in sand, salt and mix the water. Saltinity okie then let the water cycle for 1 week with filteration turned on.
firstly, there is nothing to cycle your tank with this method..coz there isnt any bacteria to kick off the nitrogen cycle

    2. Bought some LR and put in after one week and then put a dead prawn in the tank the next day (because market close after i finish deco the LR).
LR will contain the bacteria required to start off the cycling process

After i put in the dead prawn, the water start become smelly and i first thought that was fine because the amonia thing might be started. from the looks of it, it would be best to remove the LR.. smell them to see whether they had decayed.. u should be able to get a pungent smell that u cannot take another sniff at it... let the dead prawn cycle the tank, the smell means that something is dying inside..
