Atman internal filter - noisy. Any clue ?

Finally rid of my stock overhead drip filter as I suspect CO2 has been leaking this way and also trapping heat though it's a great mechanical and bio filter.

Got an Atman 300l/hr model. It was working fine for a few hrs but now there is this slight vibration and humming noise. I remember the powerhead for my overhead filter used to be like that as well but was ok much later.

Is this normal for internal motor or it's just plain bad luck ?

Check that your filter is not in direct contact with any surface cos it might be the vibration against the contacting surface that is causing the noise. Happened to me before.

i think it's the powerhead. it vibrates even in my hand. maybe i need to open it up a little and check the shaft/impeller for any blockage. hope it's not causing too much disturbing noise and heat for the fishes.

btw, do you guys use the black foam or white wool as filter medium ?

The black filter wool is pre-cut and stays in place. It's more coarse compared to the usual white filter wool.

The latter might get entangled to the impeller if the compartment is over-stuffed.

I cut the black wool in half and used it below the white. That way I get to trap both fine and coarse particles, and at the same time reduce the likelihood of jamming the impeller.

I've also lost a lot of bacteria when converting from a big overhead filter to this small internal filter.
