Hi Bro, this is a interesting setup!

Just to contribute a new points that came to my minds:

    1. I'm afraid that your cover will get rusty after a while... maybe you can consider the plastic mesh available at the Daiso's gardening section...
    2. Hang over filter may need to be maintain regularly, so you might need to remove it often...
    3. The gap between the tree cork bark and the filter.... I can foresee your newts hiding inside and hopefully not got suck by the filter...
    4. I made the mistake of having too little water area in my previous setup, that's why my setup is now 90% water... found out thru the hard way that in our hot climate, my newts are doing better when they spent more time in the water... and therefore it is important to keep good quality water and more water volume really helps!
    5. Have fun!

Warmest Regards from Merviso aka Merv Soh

    Hi bro!

just went to see your FBN tank! STUNNING!!

    1. Been have alot of trouble finding a cover. Didn't know daiso will have it! I'll head down someday to get it! Thanks for the info bro!
    2. Yes, I will be changing the wool in it. Thus, the piping shouldn't be distuebed.
3.The gap will be pushed to close by the ADA soil when it is ready. The newts won't be sucked in as there will be no suction forces in there, as the HOF is with a DIY piping attached to the underground gravel.
4.Yes, I second that! Read so much about it. They actually prefer water more, more than land. My this setup will be 50% water and 50% land. Hopefully they will be happy in here.
    5. TYVM!

Bro, I've seen your tank and it's so lush in green! Those plants of yours looks really good! Care to share what they are, requirement to keep and also where to get?

    Cheers!

Thanks for your valuable input.I felt that it made sense to use rocks and filterwool to make it have a even more natural look.also I believe the it's camera error as my mesh cover should be fine to keep the fbn in there as the squares holes on the mesh is smaller then the newt's head. They should not be able to go through it ... And the reason I use glass partition is mainly because I like how it looked , a very clean and modern "zen" look to me . As I'm going to have some tetra and fishes in there . I would love to see them against the glass like a small tank within my tank .

    Yes, thanks for the anticipation to see my tank! Me toooooooo!! Can't wait to have my newts in their new condo (;

    Re: Mysterious Project

Those are actually emersed Singapore Moss that you can find in common shaded areas in car park or beside drains. The Selaginella erythropus, which is the one at the right back corner isn't really doing well after a while...

Btw, do take note of air ventilation issue, the moss started getting moldy after a while when I kept the acrylic cover on... after I removed the cover, the moss started to recover slowly....

    Hi bro,

Oic, I'll probably go grab some when setting up. Thanks for the warning and advise on the air circulation, I believe my current metal mesh shouldn't be a problem. Will take note of your advise if I happen to have acrylic lids. Why not bring it to those workshop to get it drilled? Drill small holes on your covers?

    Re: Mysterious Project

As you can see in my photo, I got one side of the tank covered with only plastic mesh.... but seems like there is not much of airflow to provide a good ventilation... For my next tank, I will definitely add in a fan in my design... Will also help to lower down the temperature for the newts too....

Oic. Why not get a full plastic mesh? Also is your plastic / acrylic cliped to the tank? Will the news push it open? That was my thought initially, thus had to make a bend down, which serves the purpose like many clips.

    Cheers.

Full plastic mesh will block out a high percentage of the lights... The newts are not really strong, so as long as the cover don't get blown off by sudden wind should be quite safe... I usually blind the plastic mesh together with the transparent acrylic to keep them in place...

Oic, as the hole are too close together right, thus not much light can get through. I guess, my metal mesh should be fine for now. Till it get rusty I'll make another one. But I believe it should not get rusty so soon as my hof outlet that spits water is below the mesh. Hopefully, my newts don't keep hang out around the mesh area as they have water on them that will rust it.

hah, I'll wait and see. If too fast rusty, I'll probably get the plastic meshes from daiso.

Thanks again bro for the info and lobangs!
    (:
