She will do that if she having eggs to guard.
As mentioned, after placing second mirror, my female apisto has been flaring non stop and attacking it's own reflection.

Apologies bro, this must be the pair youve gotten from me, sometimes even i make mistakes with such ID as well as the LFS that sold them to me as a pair. Im willing to do a full refund for you and you can keep the fishes if you'd like that. Do contact me via my mobile if need be. Really sorry for the trouble.
Cheers,
Kenny

Life is all about patience & perseverance,
Failure is just another new beginning

I purchased 2 Apistogramma eremnopyge about a month ago, one which was definitely male and the one I assumed was female based on lack of extensive fin extensions and black leading edge on the pectoral fins. However, the "female" stayed gray in color and would flare to its own reflection quite vigorously (until the male would chase it away). Also, the first 6 dorsal spines on the "female" are fairly sharp, with a hint or orange at the tips. I suspected the female was a sneaker male based on the flaring and orange at the tips of the dorsal spines, however this weekend she yellowed up and laid her first batch of eggs!
I have a A. bitaeniata female that previously laid eggs but is now living with some A. macmasteri because her mate died, and also flares in the mirror when the male macmasteri is not around to chase her away.

Another way to sex females. They are smaller and rounder looking while males are longish and larger.
This pic is a female Ap. bitaeniata

Wayne, your female look a bit large.
The female tends to be more dull looking..
But some cases females look equally beautiful.

Henry, the "female" is about half the male, which is around 1-2cm according to my estimation. Hope that help in determine is a sneaker male or female. Thank in advance !

Yours could be a female. Take a bigger shot and attached using photobucket for a larger pic. The ones you attached is too small to determine accurately.

Can someone really tell how to sex a caca female... I think it's really challenging...
Show a bigger shot so we can take a closer look at the female fins...
