I guess the wild caught ones you really need to feed live food!

Can I check with you guys what you feed your Apistos? I've got a pair of A.Panduros that are refusing my Hikari and nls micro pellets(my dwarf corys love these). Only thing they seem to take are the tiny decapped BSE which I find difficulty in feeding because half of the BSE would have fallen into the substrate before they can finish them. Any other types of food anyone can recommend?

Will a setting like this be sufficient for keeping apisto?

Fish keeping is not a good hobby unless you received support from your family to keep them.

Maybe you can try frozen blood worm... If you insist on pellet than feed them only once they had finish... Not to throw in alot at a time so it won't cost wasted food on ur substrate...

I bought a bag of live brine shrimp and they seem to love it, except for the larger brineshrimp which they try to chew down, but spit them out after a while and conveniently ignore it after that(I feed one BS at a time)...They are really finicky about their food!
The female came with rather bad colouration, with some small white patches. While it is still swimming and eating normally, there are times when she does this funny rolling motion. Its getting me kinda worried...anyone knows why?
Some kinda parasite infection i suppose, could you put some pictures of the female up

It does not seems to be white spot... But the wat it behave have similar behavior of it... I never had it when I keep Apisto... Well maybe you can try adding some white spot medication...
By the way where did you buy your Apisto???

Hi fongalv, most apistos do not take staple food readily. If live brine shrimps is too much hassle for you. I would recommend hikari frozen bloodworms for your apistos. Wild caughts can be trained to take staple food, i used ADA pellets and they take them but not as readily as live food or frozen bloodworms though. So i would recommend a mix of both pellets and frozen blood for your feeding.
As for your fish disease, if the fishes are scratching themselves, its highly ich (white spots) infection. If not cured. It will kill your fishes. Did you cycle your tank for at least 2 weeks before introducing them in? If you did not, that might be the cause of the disease. Change your water, add a heater into your tank, turn it to 30degrees and the white spots should be eradicated in a week time. Oh, and dose generous amount of BB into your tank helps to.

@Apistoinka:
I got them from c328 a few weeks back when their stocks came in. There were some panduros, bitaeniatas, cacas, and some others.
@genes:
Thanks for the advice, I did try hatching live brine shrimp but I think the hassle comes when trying to rear them until they are of "medium" size. I bought a packet of live brine shrimp and found that they spit out the large ones after chewing and then totally ignore it even tho there was no other food(I feed one at a time).
As for then tank, I have been running it for almost 8 weeks now. After cycling fishless for 2 weeks using seachem stability, I added 5 amano shrimps and 2 nerite snails, after week 3, added 10 dwarf corys, after week 4 another 10 dwarf corys. Apistos were introduced around week 5.
Up till now the corys still seem fine, have been shifting some plants around previously but have stopped ever since the apistos have been inside(in fact I'm thinking of adding more plants soon as I've found that they prefer a denser planted environment). What my female Apisto have does not seem like ich, but its probably the closest I have found. Is any course of medication necessary(where can I get them)? Or will just installing a heater set to 30ºC do the trick?
I have found the colouration on the female to change rather frequently, sometimes it will have a tint of yellow and the dark patches will be more prominent, sometimes it will just be patchy pale white, getting me quite worried now. Disease or not, I'm pretty sure it came with it when I bought it from c328, but given the badly lit shop interior and the pale patchy colouration of the fish, I didnt notice the patches too distinctively until they stabled and had abit more colour.
BTW, what kind of BB should I be dosing? Any recommended ones?

Your pic does not show any signs of ich. But if the fish is seen scratching itself. Its probably the onset of ich. You have alot of fishes in your tank. If your tank is a 2ft or 1ft, that is too much bio load in a tank. Ich is easy to treat with just a heater. But of course, you can add alittle medication as well to boost the treatment during the heater treatment. As for BB, i use API.
There's no need to grow the hatched brine shrimps to bigger size for feeding. They are most nutritious when fed freshly hatched. All apistos dig baby brine shrimps.

Hi genes, thanks for all the advice on the brine shrimp. With regards to the tank size, mine is a 2feet tall type, a total of about 20+ gallons. I roughly followed aqadvisor.com and am at about maximum bio/stocking level. Will not be adding any more after this.
If this really isn't ich, any idea what is it then? The turning on its side while rare, is like a precursor to bellying up...
Well was surprise that my Apisto borellii female was bringing a group of about 30 free swimming fries... It's the first day of free swimming fries any idea what to feed the fries???
Bro, i'd suggest get some newly hatched BBS from C328... then start hatching your own
You may try liquifry as well, though some fries refuse to eat it, but might have a good chance with Borellii.. BBS is still the best for fries.

Well I'll just leave it and see what they can find among the fern roots, moss and soil that they can eat... Such a headache... Guess will let the female to take care of everything and let this batch as my study pragramme... Hehehehe...
Will post pic soon...
