Problems with connecting chiller to external filter

    Hi everyone

I'm currently using eheim 2075 canister filter and a hailea chiller. I connected them initially and there were no issues. I, however, was washing my filter that day, and upon fixing it back the filter just refused to move (it did continue making the motor noise). After much trouble shooting, i finally decided to remove my chiller from the circuit and the filter worked normally.

What am I doing wrong? and how should i go about solving this problem?

    Thanks lots!

It seems like a case where the water at the inlet is not enough to flow into the filter. Did you see that the water surpassed the tank water level and into the filter? Maybe you can share what you did during your troubleshooting. I don't think it is due to the chiller

i tried prefilling the whole canister with water first, but i don't think that made a difference. The inlet hose was totally filled with water, but it was obvious that there was no water movement. The outlet, needless to say had no water at all.

For me pre filling the canister with water first helps a lot because I do not need to prime my 2026 too many times to push the water from the tank water level up to the inlet hose.
When you switch on your canister, is there a water gap at the top of the inlet ( the part which hangs onto the tank wall)?

There was a large bubble at the inlet. Dies that matter?

Large bubble means no continuity of flow. No input then no output

Or use a submersible pump at the inlet to give a push?

I am not sure with 2075. Fr my 2026, there is a manual pump to prime the water. I read that 2075 has a smart prime but don't know how it works. Maybe you can google

Re: Problems with connecting chiller to external filter

I am using a Ehiem 2075 with Hailea chiller too. I did encountered the same sometimes. When there is large air bubble at the inlet, the filter flow is very slow or no flow. Also, if large volume of air in filter, will cause motor noise or sizzling noise. Check if filter inlet or outlet is connected in right direction. Check if there is a pre-filter issue. Check any water lock valve close. Try repeating prime and pushing the suction aid a few times. I always fill the filter with water before I lock the plumb chamber. Unlock all external valves. It requires 3 to more suction press to prime water to operation. When it is in operation, tilt and shake the filter to ensure the air inside the filter run out to outlet and with no or low noise during operation.
