I would say can try to keep one male and two females. I'm also new but seems hard to get a trio, so mostly will get a pair of Inka instead of trio.
Hi All,
Currently still cycling my tank 2x1x1.5. Substrate sand, mainly driftwood and rocks. No plants at all. I know they prefer acidic waters and peat will help in that so will test ph soon to see. I'll add two coconut husk instead of ceramic caves, is it alright?
After reading up, it seems for beginner and at cheaper cost, it would be Apistogramma cacatuoides, Apistogramma agassizii and Apistogramma trifasciata. Correct me if I'm wrongI fancy Caca more though.
Can't seem to decide whether i should go for a pair for breeding or afew of the same gender. I would like to comm the apistos with rummynose, is it ideal? I chose rummynose because they're schooling fishes and like them alot. Or any other attractive fishes to comm with apistos?
If i were to choose A.Caca, I want like to keep a few like 3, which gender should i choose that is less aggressive? If i don't go for breeding.
If i would like to breed, best is to just keep one pair in my tank right?
Sorry for so many questions, I hope it will be a successful journeyThanks All.

Fish keeping is not a good hobby unless you received support from your family to keep them.
thanks stormz! but seems rather hard to source for them, hopefully in marketplace will have more soon

Hi, i think A.caca is the most common species around, a trio of A.caca isn't hard to get.
Apisto caca and agassizi are commonly found in market... You can replace them if you find that anything had happen... I'm sure market place will have...
A trio of apistos is not recommend with a tank your size due to their territorial nature. If you have a male and 2 females. Once a pair is formed and breeds. The other female could be killed. Likewise, with 2 males, the alpha male will be overly aggressive towards the other male. If fights do not kill them, they will most probably die from stress from the constant chasing by the dominant pieces. So, just go for a pair and enjoying the breeding experience.
If your intent is to breed, do not put in any other fishes. Else, your choice of rummy nose if fine.
