Was really hot these few days. My hs28 kicks in 20mins, kicks out 25mins. (used to 1hr kickout)Electrical bill high high high, seems like switching on aircon will be better as family also get to enjoy.

At least you have a chiller... i'm running with nothing but fans and it's been like 30 degrees in my tanks(according to thermometers). Im damn worried for my shrimps. haha. Aircon spoilt also... zzz... so everyone in the house is suffering including the shrimps haha. The shrimps(sakura, fire red, rili, tiger, snow white) seem to adapt okay though. No casualties so far.

Don't wait for any casualty, do make ice in a botol and put it inside the tank.

Would'nt that shock the shrimps even more with the sudden drop in temperature? Is there a more effective way to cool down a tank thats cheap and less likely to shock the shrimps?

Those silent torpedo fans are effective. My nano 5g tank was registering 30C yesterday without fan. With the fan, it went down to 26C!!
Not sure if you have a bigger tank, will more fan helps.

but be warn~ yes, a fan can cool down the tank temperature, but the evaporation rate will mess up the water parameter. your shrimps will be under a lot of stress.

I'm using a fan for my shrimp tank and I think sue to the fan and the high temp, the evaporation is crazy! i have to top us every 2 days (it's a nano tank). Is there any way to counter the evaporation?
