Hi guys, I have started a 4 x 1.5 x 1.5 ft planted tank. Over the past 1.5 years, I have tear down and restarted about 3-4 times. After discovering this forum, my tanks starts getting more positive results. Big CHEERS to you guys!!

However, recently got lots of hair algae on my wood filled with java moss and ricca (bought from Teo). The first 3 months just looks wonderful. Wanted to narrow down whats wrong but getting multiple test kits can be expensive. Recently saw the 5 in 1 kit by tetra and wonder if it'll do the trick? [:]

I will hazard that the algae is probably aided by nutrient deficiencies, nutrient imbalance or simply excess light (without correspondingly high CO2). If you have enough NO3 (5-10 mg/l), PO4 (0.5-1 mg/l), K (30-40 mg/l) and micros, your plants should thrive and algae will diminish.

Actually, I find yamatoes very useful with green hair or thread algae. try those???

Yes, you're probably right. I up my CO2 to about 4 bubbles per second a few weeks ago upon seeing the algae but does not help much. Bought 12 yamatos and 5 SAE also don't help much. Now my CO2 cylinder used up and have to run the tank without CO2 for a few days. I have Hanna pH pen and wanted to buy test kit to check for nutrient deficiency, thats why wonder if you guys have any comments on the 5-in-1.
