Hi all.. I visit a LFS, the shop aunty recommend me a pack of round pellets.. And she say that it's good for plants cause is come with fertilizer, as well act as sand/soil.. She mention for this, I can save the trouble of adding a layer of fertilize plus layer of sand/soil.. also the tank water won't be so chalky and in a mess.. so I wonder is that true..

I'm really appreciate for the advise..

    Re: Need Advise..

    Hi bro...
i guess it would help us to better understand this product by sharing the brand or other product details. i'm really no guru but from what i gather from your description, i can only guess it is planting soil like ADA Soil or GEX Soil or Borneowild Plant Soil among a few other brands readily available. These soils are a good substrate to lower pH and hardness and yes, very fertile for plants. Does not require additional layers of fertilizer or sand on top. At least until the 'power' wears off a couple of years down the road. Of course unless, you do want a light colored top layer of sand. Which at this point i do not know what to do. I hope the shifus out there can help to better clarify this? Hope i may have helped you with this.

Those round balls, if they are smaller than the JBL balls, they can be the same porous material as those used in the flowerpots. At times, the LFS people try to sell you things which you have no idea about, and hence become useless when used wrongly or it becomes toxic to your fishes and plants. Be very careful on what you purchase. It is highly likely that the LFS lady was trying to sell you one of those aquatic soils as a fellow forumer has mentioned.

I have used the JBL balls, but have no comments regarding the effects.

What kind of plants are you planting? If you're sticking to mosses and other low tech plants like ferns - and without CO2 injection, you really don't need those ferts.

i have reset my tank, now no plant and thinking to get mosses. before that is planting hair grass but all turn yellow.

now is headache to bring my tank water temperature down more, cause now using dymax w7, which can get 28-27 degree..
