I received some raw caltrops during the mid-autum festival. I left them on the soil submerged in water, one month passed and yet nothing happens. Anyone can advise how to grow them?

searching from the net, the water caltrop is apparently Trapa natans, that plant with a floating rosette of leaves but a rooted underwater stem. Given its size, I think it's more suited for ponds than indoor tanks.

I think you need to break open the shell. I tried lotus and have to break open the shell for it to even shoot.
