    Eheim Pro 2228: ~1050 lph

    Chiller
    Hailea HC-300A: 1000~2500 lph OR
    Hailea HC-250A: 600~2200 lph OR
    Hailea HC-100A: 200~1000 lph

Hi all, i planning to use the existing Eheim 2228 that my aunty passed to me for my upcoming 3 feet shrimp tank (~164litres, 90x45x45(cm), ~90%full).. I am going to get some new media for it, maybe can get it from C328 or Seaview (can anyone pm me where to get and what's the price like?).

Anyway i found someone from AQ with similar setup (bro martin, he used 2228 with 150A).. But many bros recommend using one step above.

PS. This will be my first chiller, i doesn't want to get a wrong size chiller and regret later so i am reading a lot and hope to get information from experienced bro.

    Many thanks!

C328 and Seaview have media for you to get but it depends on your budget to spend more or less on it.

Chiller wise 2228 can tag team with 250 or 300 shouldn't be a problem. 150a also can but weather hot these few weeks better to get 1 more level above the substantial amount required.

    Cheers ...

Don't forget to set a side some sum of money to be use to modify your chiller to an external temperature probe sensor, better temperature control. You won't be at the mercy of your canister flow rate.

Wingless, your brother never nag at you for buying chiller? Haha.
Hc 300 if you get brand new shouldnt be a problem. As external thermomstat is quite expensive, you can wait for your crs sales in 3 months time to cover back some profit and invest in one..

Haha why would he nag at me? :P
BTW the flowrate for HC300A is around 1000-2500lph but the flowrate for Eheim 2228 is only 1050lph (with or without media?)..
if the flowrate is roughly 1050lph max then i might be getting HC250A as the flowrate is 600-2200lph.. Time to go price check in shop and as well as look out for the second hand chiller

bro..just take out the sensor inside the water reservoir and make the wire longer and just put inside your tank..and you can use your eheim canister to your chiller..

Re: 3feet tank, question for chiller..

    1. Though I had one tutorial for How to Modify Hailea Chiller Sensor to External, it does no mean this machine can not work when it's out of box. Quite a few owners (including of myself) here run their Hailea chiller very well without any modifications. At least, it's an aquarium chiller rather than anything else.

    2. Your tank is 36x18x18in, which is a 50g/191L tank, (can you check your 164L), with 90% load is 171L. Even your Eheim is running at max (without media), 1050L/H. It's 1050/171=6x of tank volume only. Consider the reduction of the flowrate (media, chiller, etc), assuming it's 70%, you will get approx. 4x/H tank water filtered. I will not say it's too low for a RCS tank, it's far from too strong as you worried.
    Rules for Aquarium
Rule No.1: Do change the water weekly, not the fish.
Rule No.2: Do your responsibility: take care of the water.
Rule No.3: Do not take care of the fish. Fish will take care of themselves.

    Thanks bro for your reply..
So it's okay even if the filter flowrate matches the minimum flowrate of the chiller or slightly lower? <- This is the only thing i am not sure about.
