Choy...I think your tank is lacking in CO2. BBA and stuff in your tank is a clear indication other than overstocking (are you? [] )..

Choy, try sticking half or a quarter of a Jobe stick into the substrate near one of them and see what happens.
On a side note, do you dose calcium to your tank? I suspect that could be a factor.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

thanx for the pointers, no this is not a tank but a water trough placed outdoors but not in direct sunlight. So there is no CO2 but water is shallow (10cm) and surface is large (4×1 ft). Calcium might be an idea, I have deep base fert (3-in) JBL.
Never tried Jobe stick because I was using Jaqno, perhaps give it a try.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Sherwin, I hope to see more plants in there. Not enough plants for the strong lights you've got.[]
----------------
Actually, I've cleared quite a bit of plants before I took the pic. I think you saw before how it looked when you collected the tank from me, quite a jungle right. Anyway, I've planted some background plants and hopefully it is able to take off. Wish me luck.

Hi Sherchoo!
Do you use a chiller on your MH 4 footer? Juz wondering how you manage to bring down the temp under the intense heat of the MHs.
Cheers!

Kadios,
Yup, I have a chiller attahched to my filter which explains my temp. I have ran without activating my chiller and the temp was around 29~30 (during warmer days ~31 deg). My point is that MH may not always "boil" your tank water as some may have believe in the past.

Thanks for the info! Interested to get a couple of MH like yours in the future, so really want to know how hot MH can get.
Cheers!

Think in this setup the MH and the suface of tank have almost a foot of free space in between thus the effect of heat from the MH will disperse into the air.
We should be asking does your house feel warm when the MH is on???![]()
