X'mas Moss??

Was at Nature and saw Chan's X'mas moss tank on his cashier counter. Noticed that the x'mas moss he has is much finer and smaller than the one that I got. He said its probably different species??? Is this true??

Btw, I have just started my third planted tank!! However, I've news that I may be posted overseas for assignment for 6 mths! How to maintain my tank? Close shop??

unfortunately yes, unless you somehow get some kind of automatic water top up and feeding.(well depends on your fish type).

Convert to low light tank. No need to add fert... no CO2... little water change.

All you have to do is instruct you family to feed sparingly.

A safer and more convenient solution would be to close shop. 6 months is a long time unless you have someone planted tank competent that is living to care of it. Else, I will forsee the tank will be forced to close down if/when it runs into problems when you're away.

We have come across different type of X'mas moss which may have slightly different look anmely Taiwan moss and another I've seen in one of the tanks in Sam's Pet.

BTW, you're thread is about X'mas moss or your overseas posting?

Sherchoo, sorry for the confusion ... I had wanted to talk about my long trip away.

Wonder if it is ok to remove all plants, livestocks and just have tank and running water thru the filter. Hope to maintain the gravel and the base fertiliser. The Dennerle Deponit-mix cost me a bomb. With just running water, a 50% water change monthly can?? Hope to "east mountain up again" once I am back.

With a tank without livestock, breeding of mosquitoes would be a concern. Maybe you can drain all your water and leave the substrate to dry. Restart again when you come back.
