Hi! I was wondering, what substrate should be used to keep Kuhli Loaches? Would soil (like ADA amazonia and GEX) be ok? Do kuhlli loaches uproot plants? Thanks!

    Re: Kuhli Loach and Substrate

Hi! I've kept kuhli loaches before. I won't really suggest using soil as substrate because they burrow a bit and can stir up quite a bit with soil. The ideal substrate in my opinion will be river sand or the SUDO brown sand (inert). While i don't remember they actually uproot plants, these loaches can get startled quite easily and may dart around vigorously.
    Cheers!

Hi griffinkid! Ah, finally someone who has experience with kuhlis..I guess sand does seem the best, considering their behaviour. But can you plant plants into sand?

I have some Kuhli loach in a planted tank, they don't disturb the sand too much. Are you asking if plants can be grown in unfertilzed sand? The aswer is yes, Perhaps best for Echniodorus or Anubias, they are bulletproof.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he will drink beer while getting sunburnt.

If you have a big tank ( i.e. 3ft ) once you throw them into your tank, its really really hard to get them out

Thanks Shaihulud! If you don't mind, can you please share the plants you grew in sand? Thanks!

Haha, yeah sianxz, heard about that. But it seems they are more active if a group, so hope they won't hide too much!

Yes, if you ask me, most fishes are best kept as a group except for a few that is not suitable. It nice seeing them school around swimming together instead of feeling lost alone, hahas ~
