Is the hair algae infestation affects just your mini xmas or other plants? If all plants are infested with hair algae, then likely is your water condition promoting the growth of the algae.

Sorry bro, maybe i didn't put the problem out clearly. Its the mini xmas moss that i have bought from the marketplace have hair algae with close inspection. Both of my purchases is say to be algae-free but when doing the sorting out at home it indicated otherwise. My tank is free from hair algae and i hope to stay that way.
Yup, have feedback to the seller and took a photo for reference. But these two encounters have cast a doubt on me if mini xmoss is more prone to hair algae or just pure bad luck haha
There are always algae in plants even if you bought it from LFS or any reputable person from the forum. The claim of "algae free" plants is that they are kept under "well control".
Any in-balance of the water condition (in buyer tank) will result in the "bloom" of this algae.

I totally disagree with your point. If the seller claimed that the plants are algae free, it should be healthy without algae upon received by the buyer. If the seller's plants are algae infested, they should not be selling or should be given for free and mentioned that the plants are infested with algae. Will buyer wants to purchase plants with algae in LFS visit?
But I agree to your point that if there is any imbalance of the water condition it can result in algae growth in the plants.
Another experience I had is when there are differences in water conditions between the seller's tank and the buyers tank.
I have never seen Bba in my tank until I bought a some new plants from a fellow forumer. They came clean at first but after a week, Bba started appearing on the new plants only. After checking, im assuming its because the slower growing plants I bought were grown in different conditions. Right now I'm still tackling the problem but I would say it's under control.
Can anyone tell me where the algae comes from? Still lots of people not sure how did it appear and where the problem is?
Most time it came from plant, not because you bought an unhealthy plant or infested algae plant which cant be seen. When you bought plant from anywhere/someone/LFS/etc they will need to readjust to new environment. Different plant have different response. Previous owner grown them in different condition from yours. The reason why it turn out to algae infested or becomes unhealthy plant/moss is because your setup condition is not optimise for it to grow healthy, especially it happen to NOT well introduced CO2 tank. Again many people claimed they have well circulate CO2, many bps etc etc, to what i know it has never being mix well in the tank and circulate well enough. Ferts is another issue also. Either you miss this or miss that. Until now many people still trying to achieve/understand the balance of how a planted tank should be.![]()

Hair algae grows on slow growing plants like moss and especially when then is excess nutrient and light.
When introducing new plant to the tank like moss especially for new set up, the best is drop the lighting period from what you usually have while continuing to provide the CO2 and nutrient that the plant needs. This will give the plant time to adjust to the tank and not spark off an algae invasion. Once you see growth on the plant, then slowly increase the lighting period. Water change is import too to avoid algae issue. Just sharing from my experiences...
In summary, algae is always present. There is no such thing as 100% algae free plant although many claim it as it is may not be visible to both seller and buyer. If you have purchased moss/ plants from anyone/LFS and there is 1 strain of thread algae (ie. 1mm), it is just waiting for any imbalance in the buyer tank condition (ie. water, fertiliser/nutrients, lighting etc) waiting to grow further. This may result in misunderstanding between the seller, who claim it to be algae free and buyer, who claim that algae begin to appear after buying plants from seller (LFS or from fellow forumers).
We could only keep it under control.
Just my 2 cents.Happy Planting.

Thanks for all the bro advises, fully agreed that there will be algae present in most tanks. Just that any inbalance of the water parameter, lighting and co2 will suddenly speed up the growth of algae. Will check out at NA this weekend to see if there any xmass moss for sale.
i saw xmas moss at c328 today, perhaps can check out also.
NA is closed till June 20th. Just went today and saw the noticed pasted on the shutter gate.
