    Tank mates for CRS

    Hi everyone!

Right now I have some Ottos and nerite snails to take care of some algae problems!

Lately however, I've had a bit of hair/thread algae on the fissidens lawn I'm trying to grow. Funny enough, they're not growing anywhere else but the fissidens lawn. Also I'm getting sick of those worms and copepods that are common-place in a shrimp tank.

How is this related to the topic? I'm wondering if there are shrimp safe tank mates that will be able to help me with the problems I was having.

I was thinking of adding 1 or 2 yamato shrimps to take care of the hair algae, and 1-2 pieces of boraras briggitae or microrasboras galaxy. Since there will be plenty of food for just a single or two pieces of the above mentioned fish, I'm sure they wont go after my shrimps right? I don't have any shrimplets at the moment, and no pregnant CRS, so I'm just wondering if the galaxy or briggitae will attack my adult shrimps?

Also as for the Yamato, will it be safe to put them with the CRS? And should I get those huge sized ones or the regular sized ones (slightly bigger than CRS)?

    Thanks bros in advance!

Also for interest sake.. can the bros here share their CRS tank mates too! And their experiences with them!

I heard that red nose shrimps does a great job on hair algaes. as for those seed shrimps, try to siphon them out first, lesser feeding will do the job. Mosqito Boras will nib on shrimplets. Otto will hit and run your shrimps during feeding. Bigger size yamato will snatch and runs off with the shrimp food.

I have no problems with L183 till now.. They are still in my CRS tank with 3 Oto and all the shrimps...

Most of the time, L183 are hiding in shelters and behind plants...

I have some cherries, a red nose and a few ghost shrimps with my CRS. So far i've observed the ghost shrimp bullying the other smaller shrimps..

    Re: Tank mates for CRS

I just bought some red-nose shrimps, and 4 rasboras briggitae. Put 2 in each partition. Likewise for the shrimps! I already see the briggitae start eating those pest worms!

I saw the red-nose shrimps dig in where my hair algae is (Fissidens lawn).. I googled and saw this shrimp eating into the leaves.. so scary! Will they eat my fissidens leaves too? and my mini fissidens? I did a search on them, and many people actually believe they're better hair algae eaters than yamatos.

Hope to see some results soon! haha!

Thanks for all the advice here! I'll be purchasing a L183 as a tank mate, I think they look fantastic.. gorgeous things

Red-nose shrimps shouldnt be eating your fissiden lawn. They seems to only pick on those that leaves are 'tasty' to them. But other then that, they never seems to be touching others. Even my mini fissiden, they never touch. So should be alright.
You placed in rasboras, you are not worried about them eating your shrimplets, IMHO?

As for L183, I am actually letting go of my 2 pcs of L183. If you are interested, just PM me. Cheers.

    Re: Tank mates for CRS

Right now my tank has no shrimplets and no pregnant CRS and I believe they are the smallest fish in the hobby that I can find right now yea?

So I have about 1 month to keep them. As long as they keep eating my worms in that time, I'm happy. When the time comes where I have pregnant CRS I'll start thinking of finding them a new home!

I would be very interested in your L183.. if they're still juvenile size! I'll PM you!

Bro, you can try getting some Otto sp. Aka tiger Otto, they are smaller than normal ottos and nicer. But the price is around 6~7 time more than Otto.

    hi bro zack!

I'm actually looking around for zebra otos but am finding it impossible to find shops that stock it. Sightings of possible zebra otos have turned out to be tiger otos.
