    Hey guys!

It's been recently brought to my attention that my tank too densely planted. Is there such a thing? I honestly thought that besides giving space for fish to swim, there's nt much purpose is trimming your plants! Of course, we trim to maintain the clean look, but that's just aesthetic right? Besides trimming to make space and for a good, nice looking tank, is there any other purpose which would encourage me to trim my plants?

I'm not saying I'm lazy, in fact I'd like to trim my plants (it's getting a little untidy). But I keep a tank of platys and guppies, together with shrimp. I don't trim my tank because I understand that it makes my shrimp feel more secure! In particular, I'm referring to my tank in the picture below

At the end of the day, my question is, why do we trim our plants? For looks? For fish swimming space? Let me know!

    Small Glass Aquarium: 180mm(L) x 130mm(W) x 150mm(H)

Why do space constraints exist, whyyyy.

For newly set up tank. Trimming the plant will encourage its growth. Some of the plants when trimmed often will give a more bushy look.

Just to add, sometimes if don't trim, the faster/taller growing plants will cover the others causing the others to die off. Then you get ammonia spike and everything falls off from there.

if you don't trim those stem plants, they might grow out of the aquarium. then you get a vivarium.

Quite a bit of insight from everyone here. I especially like the one about the vivarium, haha!

Decided to rescape my tank anyway, so that solves my trimming problem. Now all I have are 3 small logs with moss I got from CRS Haven. Giving my platys and guppies away as well, keeping shrimp alone! Got so much inspiration from the dude there. Really trying to go for a clean look this time!
