Fantastic!
I like the wood and rock arrangement which I have no fate with. I just cannot handle this art.
Keep it up!

Isn't this the first price winner of the AGA 2003?
Remember reading somewhere that rock and driftwood don't mix well. This one proves it wrong.
Imo, Rocks n driftwood we're getting r not really blending. It's either the driftwood being too light coloured, or the rocks being too bright.
The rock used looks like Bazalt or granite.

Yup that's the 1st prize winner alright. It's true that the rock and driftwood available in most LFS are somewhat limited in type. Sometimes i look at pictures like these and wonder how on Earth can they come up with something like this. And i realise that we don't even have the same supplies that they do. []
============================
NEON TETRAS WOULD BE PERFECT IF NOT FOR THE ^#&*!()%@^&@%# NEON TETRA DISEASE!!

Remember reading somewhere that rock and wood collected at the same place have similar color thus they match each other. It would be interesting to do a little bit of studies to know where the driftwood was collected and how the rock there looks like.

something related to this discussion......i wonder how many of us here actually do search for rocks and driftwood ourselves in rivers/swamps/forests etc......?
I must admit i don't do that![]()

i think there isnt any riccia in the tank, the tetra looks more like green neon tetra, dont think there is a species of blue tetra
the plant you asking about looks more like Didiplis diandra or Rotala sp. 'green', the 4th circle looks like a hygrophila species
got E.tenellus or B. japonica, java moss? the picture is so blurred and very difficult to ID the plants

It's ADA 2003 champion not AGA----------------

But one worrying thing about Singapore is that its natural capital is so limited, that any frenzied collection sparked off by some tip off for any sort of hobbyist might seriously endanger or spoil the natural area.
Anyway its hard to know what kind of wood is suitable or not; what about the organisms inside? does it have disease? Is it decomposing?
I think volcanic rock has nice rope-y shapes and patterns for use in the aquarium. Sad thing is we can't find them in the LFS here.

I will personally prefer the tank that got the third prize.

pardon me, but it looks more like a edited photo where Blue, Green and Red was edited deliberately.
The blue color is definitely + whilst the red has been edited but I can't make it out whether izzit a plus or minus. I figure the red its a plus. The green color tends to stand down. ie. minus.
The drift wood on the right does look like stacking. Area 2 is definitely one piece on its own. The wood at area 3, 4 and lower right does seem like seperate piece to me.

you can see some blue tetras here [:]
where can i find such rocks in the first place?
i think the grey gravel can be bought easily. but the stones and rocks are tough to find. any idea where to get them?
even the drift wood looks grey to me. the one at the top esp!

For me, more impress that the tetras is schooling.
Mine is always all over the place. Cud it be that have to limit the amount of space so that cant be evrywhere?

ive an idea ... add predators inside ...![]()
force them to use their natural instincts

tks for the suggestion. guess that will distract my attention.

looks like an underwater bonsai to me. nice.

can anyone hazard a guess of what plant is it in the background? i dont think its what simon says (pun intended), not Didiplis diandra ...
i think the foreground plants might be moss. just that i dunno what ...
anyway i think if given a choice i would still choose 3rd prize as the champion over number 1, but maintenance wise ... i think 1st would be much easier than 3rd ... (in the ADA competition that is)
comments anyone?
