tying moss to drift wood

Hi Guys
I currently have some java moss tied to my driftwood.
The question is, after some time can I cut away my string? Would the moss atach itself to the wood or would it just float away? How about for Java Fern?

Given long enough, they will stay attached. In fact, I don't think you need to cut it off.

Depending on how thick the moss was when you first tied it, you can safely remove the string after 1-2 months. The moss should have established a good firm grip on the wood by then.

If you used cotton string (sewing thread) to tie, then no need to remove as the string will dissolve in a couple months. Only need to cut if you used fishing line.
