Re: Newbie starting out. Where to get the shrimps?

Its all depends on what shrimps you wants to get. Some like cherries are able to take it, some like crs will have hard time keeping alive. Its better to get your water parameter to suit your prefered shrimp and not getting your shrimps used to the water parameter.

Re: Newbie starting out. Where to get the shrimps?

First you can try the nearest LFS from your place (http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...Shop-Directory)
I am on west so i usually went to Colourful Tropical Aquarium, Clementi Florist & Aquarium ( C328 ) and Polyart Aquarium.

Maybe you can check this shop too
    http://www.gcshop-sg.com/product.php...ata=20&cate=-1
    http://www.crshaven.com/

Soil will help to make the water more stable. For me this is quite important.
Don't forget about the temperature too.

Hope this is useful for you. Happy shrimp-ing.

Bro , i reckon that soil is quite important for shrimps like crystal red shrimps , but i have an experience keeping neo-caridina species of shrimps in tanks with lapis sand as substrate.
For shrimps , you can check out crshaven , Natural Aquarium and Green Chapter , if not you can search in buy and sell and see if any bro live near you then you get the shrimps from them. For starters , i recommend you keeping cherries then golden/snow white then crystal red shrimps. When you buy shrimps , don't buy those which are big because they should be old already.I always resist the temptation to buy gravid shrimps as for me , the pregnant shrimps may just drop eggs or release lesser shrimpslet when you buy them home from shop causing in the pregnant shrimp being stress and have to re-adapt to the new environment at home.

I am using ADA II Amazonia

There are many other brands.. I think the most popular 2 are ADA and GEX! I think I bought my ADA soil for $36.. the big bag. More than enough for a 2ft tank

You bought the shrimps before buying the soil?

IMHO, 5kg is enough for shrimp tank, but 8kg is better for planted tank.

Yeah 5 kg is enough. slightly able to create a slope in the tank without having a flat look.
