Covered planted tank

I am having a 2.6ft covered tank with FL (2x 18watts), wanted to change to PL light. But do not know want watts required and are there anyone giving away or selling PL light system.

how many wattage do you require based on the type of plants you intend to have?

General guide for flourescent light is 3W per gallon. Bear in mind this is just a guide. It will still depends on various plant requirements and your nutrient supply. Generally, the 3W/g should be quite safe.

Thanks for the information however I want to change from 2x FL Light system to PL Light system. Is the PL light requirement the same to what you gave me?

Oh yah, a point to note. Covered tanks with lights tend to get quite warm. Maybe some sort of cooling will be necessary.
