Been using timer and no issue for me so far.
I have been using a timer to control the on and off function of my aquarium light for about 3mths now. But today suddenly my whole house was affected by power failure. The source was traced to the light which not only trtipped the ELCB inside my house but also the outgoing breaker where the meter reading is. Hope to hear if others have encountered similar problem. Could certainly use some advise to prolong equipment life.

No issue for me. I have timers that have been running for over 6 years.
I don't think so, many of us have been using timer for years
The timer or the aquarium light would be poorly designed. Change!
Buy a better quality timer/light.
Aquazonic light i suppose is a trusted brand. Quality of timer might affect accuracy of on/off timing but unlikely to cause damage. Correct me if i am wrong. So basing on the feedback so far i can safely conclude that using timer does not damage the light. Mine could be an isolated incident. Thanks for the valuable feedback
Maybe moisture has gotten into the timer? or light? Normally faulty products or wetness will trip the ELCB. Lights is quite low voltage and will not trip the whole house.
Hope will find the following information useful. The source of problem was traced to the Aquazonic Light. The PCB was burnt black. Look like a poor design problem. Am surprised that no one had problem with this particular brand. The PCB was hidden inside the housing and covered with a layer of heatshrink tube. Obviously the intention was to ensure moisture or water does not comes into contact. However it is at the expense of poor heat dissipation. For the record the light was purchased on 10th Nov 2010 and it is left on for 5hrs daily.
