Plant ID help

Somehow i have never been able to be dead sure in identifying 2 types of plant i am keeping. Can anyone help me? My guess is that the first is Ludwigia and the second is Rotala though don't know exactly what exact species. Thanks! []

the ludwigia is a guess only.. theodore say that it might be gratiola sp. becoz of the jagged leaf blade

can you take a pic of the whole plant?

Ya, first one looks like gratiola (Some call it Limnophila).

There was a huge argument regarding the 2 names an Aqua Botanic. Lots of picture (emersed and submerged) too.

The CCK fs (near the CCK interchange) has it as a centrepiece in his display tank some time back. His is dark red in color.

Yup yup yup!! The mint smell's there alright. That's one thing very peculiar about this plant. So it's not Ludwigia ah? All along i thought it is... anyway when it first came (emersed) it had purple leaves. Now only the top portion become purple (or maybe very pale red) when near water surface.

As for the second, i had thought it was Rotala walachii... die... all the people i gave trimmings before got wrong info from me... []

my observation for the 1st pic, looking at the leaf structure, the center and shorter one showing the top looks like gratiola, but the one on the left doesnt have jagged leaf blade and it pretty much looks like ludwigia sp.

nominally it is because you're short of light, but then my big bush have both red/purple and completely green branches growing side by side right under the lights.

Hi.. the second plant looks like Rotala sp. "Nanjenshan" which looks very similar to Mayaca sp. I think it's sometimes called yellow rotala. But when grown emerse the leaves are quite dark green and not needle shaped at all. It's submerse appearance is very attractive. Rotala wallichii is usally red or pink and has finer leaves than the plant in the picture.

Thanks for all the replies. I have read about all the description for both plants on Tropica, but funny thing is it says the height of these plants are 10-15 cm high, which is totally untrue since these plants always hit the surface of my 45 cm high tank. In fact, my MU also constantly over the surface, and Tropica says 10-15 cm too! Is it an acknowledged fact that plants do not have a maximum height to grow up to, especially when conditions are good?

I think they have an info template and they just start filling in the form. the plant height field happens to have 10-15cm as DEFAULT [:] so anything they don't fill-in becomes 10-15cm!
