    Hi Bros,

I have a question which I can't seem to google. Recently in the LFS, I have chanced upon this new strain of Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, they are being called "Golden Blue Rams".

I noticed that they share similarities with the electric blue ram and golden rams in terms of colouration. But, I was wondering if anyone knows if this strain is stable (colouration will stay, able to reproduce etc?) Their blue colouration is more of powder blue as compared to the metallic blue seen in EBRs. They are a rare beauty in my opinion, but overly overly priced Oh yea, some dude in aquabid is selling these beauties as well

    I haven't seen them yet.
I have raised the fry to adults from a pair of Rams consisting of a male Blue Ram and a female Gold Ram. As F1's all the fish had a normal Ram phenotype although they were a little lighter than inbred German Blue Rams and were very pretty but not so different as to be worth more than either Blue or Gold Rams. I ascribed the difference to each of the parents descended from a different line of normal Rams. If I had to describe them I would say they resembled wild caught Rams the most.
Old fish breeder. SA Dwarf Cichlids, Hypancistrus sp L260, L333 and Peckoltia L134 breeder. Also Sturisoma, Dwarf Corydoras spp, wild Discus and Killiefish. Like breeding Characins and wild Betta spp too.

My hunch is that cross would also produce all normal Blue Rams and if you bred the siblings you would get 25% Electric Blue and 75% Normal blue.
This is what happens if the Electric blues are like Golds in having a single recessive gene for the EBR trait.
However, I don't know of any reports and the genetics could be more complicated.
I'm sure at the very least you would have some pretty Rams.

    Re: Golden Blue Ram

They may be from Joe Gargas' line. Back when I was considering raising rams, I researched a lot of strains of rams because I was afraid of getting a highly inbred and weak/sensitive/sickly ram, and his line of rams that were crossbred gold/electric blue rams were said to have good parenting behavior and were very hardy/adaptable to water conditions because of the outbreeding. You may have a descendant of his line, or a descendant of some similar genetic crossing.
Currently keeping guppies, bettas, weather loaches, and Aphyosemion australe (my first killifish).
Currently trying to breed the A. australe.

I have seen them in seaview aquarium too. They look highly attractive. does anyone know if they can do well in an altum tank....ie sharing same parameters such as low ph / low tds etc??

Difference in size. It might be the only incompatibility. I doubt the blue ram will do well with altum

Water condition and etc. Fishes can be tuned most of the time if they are captive bred.

    Hi Barmby,

Thanks. I am keeping the wild altums alone by themselves for now. At least until they stabilize and dont keep dying on me.

I lost 25 pieces due to over medication.....and now left with 5 wild caught altums, and 6 tank-raised altums from someone who imported them from Taiwan. Are those from Gan adults or juveniles?? thanks.
