Nice...but my wife likes the iwagumi. Do got to try and achieve that in a iq3 plus almost frills free meaning no chiller, no CO2 etc... Wonder if that can happen.
Hi All
I have intentions to setup a Dymax IQ3. As of now, i am more inclined to putting some of those hardy shrimp that i have gather in this forum as well as from the net.
i am still at this stage where i am finding out stuff before the commitment.
some questions i have:-
1. where to get and how much is the IQ3? i understand that the LED provided is not going to last very long. so how much to replace it with a good one?
2. can i use it as it is for a shrimp tank?
3. what sort of plants goes best with this setup?
thanks, any advice is good advice.![]()

Finally set up a small tank. Water still murky, waiting for it to clear up. Was advised not to use LED light. How true, I'm not sure, I see some pics here that people are using LED. Amy take on this?
LED = not that hot , lower tank temperature, which is quite critical for shrimps. but for plants, i heard fluorecent lamps are better. if your temp is above 28, i think its better for you to get a fan. if you are interested, can sell you some of my adult rilli shrimps at half of the lowest price you can find, when the current babies are matured enough for breedings.![]()

Hi Kermit,
Your tank setup is nice! I bet your kids are enjoying it now... let alone after adding the shrimps!
My initial idea was for the kids too.... but now, I'm the one hording the tank!! LOL
Hey thank you so much. That's lots of encouragement. Went back to seaview to get more plants. Glosso was one of them but it's darn hard to pot them in. But supportive wife was actually planting the needle like plants for me. And she actually helps me clean the tank of stains.
Can't wait to bring some shrimps in.

yes your tank looks great! maybe you can consider putting some little pebbles, forming alittle feeding ground like the one i did in my iq3. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...w-planted-tank <-- dry start method, take a look at this. i tried putting plants initially, bought the nice looking ones, but hight maintenance types.. failed miserably.starting up the tank is easy, maintaining it is the difficult part.. w/o CO tank, i think your water surface must be clean, to allow sufficient co2 to dissolve into the water , my bro told me this, dunno how true it is.

Hey, thanks. i added new plants today, don't know what is what, just buy because wifey and i think its nice, haha..wow, your HC looks good..i tried putting in glosso but its so hard to pot them in. They come in such long strands when i just wanted short ones to make that carpet look.
for CO2, i use the tablet form..don't know how good that is. still at the trying phase.

Hi, I've read the article you gave me about cycling. They mentioned something about using fishes to cycle because they're going to keep
Fishes. So in our case, do we use shrimps to cycle our tank?
Maybe I should join you and be impatient, get some hardy Cherry red to try...

http://www.algone.com/aquarium-artic...shless-cycling <-- fishless cycle method. i think the purpose of cycling the tank, is to introduce ammonia and some kind of bacteria. Eventually as time passes, ammonia leve willl start to lower down. when measure ammonia level is zero , tank is considered cycled. shrimps cannot tolerate ammonia, so.. if you put , they mostly likely will die..btw, those HC are not mine..
if you put , do expect some deaths. just be patient abit... at least 2weeks. its quite demoralising to see dead shrimps in morning and right after work... chiong back home count strength, even they are just hiding, u might think they died and kena eaten by fellow shrimps

I understand where you're coming from, but is it ok to just leave the tank as it is. Currently only plants, with a filter and daily dose of CO2 pills. 2 weeks time water will stabilize?

hhaha, you want to safe, buy some test kits. don't buy the those 7in1 5in1 type... very difficult to judge the colours.

No need to dose co2 tablets, they never work. Come to think of it, I consider co2 tablet do have a market in hobbyists' upgrading phrase. Everyone who just started will just buy one time ONLY, then move on to co2 or excel. Hahaha. Never heard of anyone dosing them on a regular basis.
