Hi..this is my attempt into fishtank. So started with a 2ft tank keeping blue emperors and axeolrodia blue. Hope to get better with comments on the scaping of the tank.
Dimension: typical 2ft tank
Filter: Eheim 2026
Substrate: MagicSoil
Lightening:2X24W T5HO (8hrs)
Plants: nana petite,HC, hairgrass, java fern, Bacopa monnieri, the rest not so sure
Fanua:13 blue emperors,10 axeolrodia blue,1 oto, 10 pygmy corys
Water movement: gentle

it depends on the fish you're keeping. i've heard of someone using a 2028 on a 2ft tank, i think to keep plecos? I also have a mere 2211 running my 2ft tank and it is still a little on the high side for my altums![]()
not really.. many aquascapers in other countries use filter that is 1000l/hr and above for their high tech 2footers.. higher flowrate = less/no dead spot = less algae.
i myself uses a 800l/hr for my 2ft tank.
A 60cm X 30cm X 30cm is approx 54 litres capacity.
A 2026 is rated at 950 litres per hour.
Say it runs at half rate due adjustment = 475 litres per hour ( Other half wasted don't you think?)
In an hour the tank water is filtered approx 9 times.
I would consider that overkill.Plus you are using a 20Watt motor to do what a 8Watt motor is more than capable of.
i rather overkill abit on the filter and i can use the filter for future upgradeAnyway, its a low tech tank..trying to prevent any deadspots(algae) due to experience with nano tank in office.
Hi cheetf,
Nice layout, its going to look nice when the plants become matured. Looking forwad

Having problem with HC..can't carpet![]()
You got any updates on how your tank is looking.
Any success yet with the HC?

Did took some pictures of the condition of the tank now...still no luck with HC..thinking of changing them into dwarf hairgrass lawn, that will be easier to maintain.
Will update with new picture soon
Hey K3nlim
Have you tried CO2? or is it tt your temp is too high? and would your corys be disturbing the "Creep-iness" of your HC?
for me i try not to go for HC least for now cos previous batches all diedvery hard plant to keep esp without e correct temp or when its emersed then all melt away...
Continuous effort- neither strength nor intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential
This is a low tech tank, so would not be using co2..water temp is around 26-28. Corys don't seems to be disturbing much because the hc had been planted at least 1month before they're in the tank. Current batch that i just bought from LFS is melting in the pot now.
Update of the tank now:
understand that they are adjusting but the melting rate is quite great. certainly not a easy plant to grow with co2 and chiller.
I was led to believe a temperature of around 24C was required for better HC growth?

some are able to grow HC lawn without the assistance of a chiller at temp of 27![]()
Hmmm who knows then, i once tried HC and my temp was 26-27C and it just melted. People say "Oh, its recovering have patience". One month later it was all goneSo i assumed it was a lower temp required.

mine did melt but some survived, however they didn't carpet even with fertile soil and high lights. My guess will be HC required some components of fert which are normally not present in large quantities and/or lower temp.
Interesting point is that i started growing the hc in emmersed form for 1 or 2months in the current tank before it was fully set up. I could noticed the differences between the leaves of an emmersed hc from a submerged one as time passed and the various changes that took place during the period of time. Perhaps there is a "timetable" of sort that indicate what nutrients HC or plants in general might required at different growing stage? Just a tot..![]()
