    Hi,

Need some advise on Filtration for 422 Planted Tank. I am plannng for some heavy planting and hope to get the Filtration plan out before the tank arrive.

    1 ) Ehiem Professional 2 2028 (Comes with the tank) / Flow rate 1050L/Hr

2 ) Ehiem Ecco 2233 (Will be connected to a Ext UV Sterilzer and Ext CO2
Reactor. (My current Canister with old media) / Flow rate 480L / Hr

Do you think that the above will be enough? Hope to get some advise. Or should I add anything else like a wave maker?

    Thank you.

The Ecco flow rate may drop a lot with a 2 ft height tank make it is not very efficient.
With the 2028, filtration rate is on the low side.
Maybe change the Ecco to a strong one. Maybe another 2028 or higher flow rate one.

Actually the plan was to lower the outlet of the 2028 to below mid level of the tank by extention. This is to created water circulation on the lower half if the tank. And at the opposite end use the 2233 to created water aneration on the top half. Wonder if this will work well.

As long the water current is flowing in the same direction it should work but no need to be mid level as the current will fall as it reaches the other end. Best is one on each side, 1 at the front and 1 at the back moving the water in circular motion. As your tank is big, it won't turn into a whirlpool.

The other way is put both filter intake and return on the same side with 1 set at 1/3 and the other at 2/3 of the width and let the outlet blow across the tank from the top. This will sweep everything at the bottom back to the intake.
Basically is never let the current "crash" into each other or there will be a lot of water turbulence.

I think I will stick to the 1st suggestion to created a circulation movement. If there is still insufficient flow, I probably add in a wave maker.

Re: Filtration for 422 Planted Tank.

Water force can be controlled by using different output size. The smaller the mouth of the output, the greater the force and will give better water movement. The bigger the mouth of the output, the gentle the flow. Play around by attaching different size hose to the output. i.e. 13mm -> 16mm will give gentle flow, 16mm -> 13mm will give stronger flow.
