    hey ppl,

first time noob here wanting to start a tank (haven't decided exactly what i'll be doing: freshwater, marine etc... still in the planning phase). planning to get a 1.5ft or 2 ft tank with possibly a sump.

been looking around several lfs and couldn't find many tanks of such sizes with built in overflows/pre-drilled for external sumps. not too keen on a customized tank because of the cost.

    just wondering whether:
    1. anyone has ever used a siphon overflow aka hanging prefilter? and what are your views on it compared to a built in. (experienced any floods when the thing gets clogged etc..)
    2. and if anyone knows where i can buy one in sg.. (can't seem to find anywhere)

    example:

    many thanks in advance!

    Re: siphon overflows

That is an overflow box and it is quite expensive compared to DIY overflow PVC pipe.
Search Google or Youtube for "DIY overflow PVC pipe".

freshnmarine.com.sg do sell the over flow box if you are still keen. FYI DIY cost is less than $10.

For Acrylic, I'd suggest Dama Enterprise @Ubi. They have a much larger variety.

You can also diy something similar to the photo on the link you posted using hob filter. Just take out the motor and replace it with pvc pipe.

    Re: siphon overflows

If all you want is an overflow box, I believe there is one that acts as an isolation box, externally. I think it is made by Kotobuki or something to that effect. It uses an airlift system and is basically a refugium of sorts.

A customised tank, while a little more expensive, may solve your requirements. Many LFS do not stock such tanks as people tend to buy normal tanks without in-built sumps. A visit to a large aquarium store like C328/Y618/Aquastar or even Seaview, might get you the tank you require.
