    - Is this one of the most powerful options available for my 1.5ft tank? it says 250w, so i presume it is really powerful? im using an 18w at the moment. or is there something i am missing?

The high wattage probably means it uses a metal halide bulb or something similar. It is powerful as a reflector, but do you really need the extra power? If your tank is just 1.5 ft, a proper set of PL lamps or high output LED lights will be more feasible. If you have a mini reef tank then maybe this item will be put to better use.

250W for 1.5ft tank? for planted tank, you kind of digging your own grave. It will be very-very hard to maintain algae with such intensity.

Some folks love to jump off cliffs without a bungee cord. It's amazing how many things one learn on the way down and the only thing to worry about is how we land.

That is the cost for the reflector and bulb holder right? You still need to factor the cost of the bulb and also the ballast, whether magnetic iron core or electronic ballast.
