Better to bring it back to Chan and have it checked.....
Went down to Chan to change my solenoid today. He replaced it with a german one and also, changed a square piece of metal as my orginal solenoid was not a standard one.
The unit was working again but when I bought it home, I found out something. When I touch the CO2 cylinder, I can feel electricity/static. I don't have this problem before replacing the solenoid.
Will this cause any damage or safety hazard in the long run? Is it normal or must I bring it back to Chan again?
Thanks

The title below my name does not make me a guru...listen at your own risk!...
Thats what I thought too, will bring it back tml.
Quite scary man.
i felt a static shock when i touch the tank and solenoid (from Chan) too. Seems normal to me......even the diy pl lites oso have this static thingy.
My set of lights from Chan don't have this problem. Only the solenoid.![]()
hellos........i guess every piece of equip differs in design and safety...best bet is to bring it to Chan to take a look. I am going there too at around 12 pm plus....buying check valves []
The solenoid died after less than 24hrs.
It was bloated and part of it melted. I suspect there was a small explosion as I could find melted plastic splattered all over the door. The hot plastic made 'pimples' on my door.![]()
Bought the whole cylinder back to Chan and the solenoid was replaced. Now, there is no more 'shock' when I touch the cylinder.
Great service from chan.![]()
The hotness of the solenoid depends on the wattage used by it. It's usually labelled on the solenoid when you observe it carefully. German brands tend to have lower wattages and is cool to touch. Of course they come at a higher pricing as well.
Cheers!
mY GOD solenoid exploding....my mother was right in making me off my CO2 tank during my short holiday...Although I thought it was ridiculous..
So what was the problem in the end? My tank and Solenoid also from NA ....JBJ brand I think..
Hey..to reconfirm Co2 tank 5L can last for a 4FT tank abt 7 mths...hence if I do a proportion, my tank will last 3 years for my 2Ft??
I running at Approx 2 bubble per sec
Not like that compare one. The 5L tank will still last you 7 months as long as you running at 2 bubble per sec no matter it's 2 ft or 20 ft aquarium. It will only last longer if you reduce the bubble rate and vice versa.----------------

NEON TETRAS WOULD BE PERFECT IF NOT FOR THE ^#&*!()%@^&@%# NEON TETRA DISEASE!!
Chan said the first solenoid that he gave me had a manufacturing defect.
No more 'shocks' when I touch the cylinder now.
