Dear all,
This article is something of a summary of activities and it documents my unintentional efforts to have managed to collect the 3 species of “fire-bellies” amphibians that is commonly available in Singapore.
The three species are summarized as follows:
Name, Date obtained, From where, Price, Size of specimen, Weblink
Fire Belly Newt, 4 Aug 2011, A contact on forum, $15 (with tank, driftwood and sand), Was intently looking for this, About 5-6cm, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Fire_Belly_Newt
Fire Belly Toad, 7 Aug 2011, LFS (local fish shop), $8 a pair (I bought 2 pairs), As my friend was bought it from this LFS before, so I know that it is there, Body length 3-4cm in total 8-9cm, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire-bellied_toad
Fire Belly Newt (paddletail), 9 Aug 2011, A contact on forum (also available in LFS), $8 a piece at LFS (I bought $5 apiece), SMS this contact and he has and he refer me to this LFS which I have visited and confirm that they do have supply, 10 – 11 cm head to tip of tail, http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Cy...ientalis.shtml
The quest started in late June 2011 when I was clearing and preparing my fish tank for the start of the school session. My colleague remarked that she was surprised that I have a fish tank in my cubicle. I said that my fish tank was already set up since 1 year ago. I am currently having 2 tanks, 1 fish and 1 vampire/red claw crab. I was thinking of converting the crab tank into a terrarium for keeping newts. But it was impossible to get any leads or information at all regarding the fire belly newts. She told me that her friends have some and was getting rid of them. When the school reopened, she informed me that her friend is not keeping fire belly newts anymore.
So I had no choice by to monitor the forums for any news. I did that for about 2 months before Lady Luck struck, so in a matter of 2 weeks I have the whole collection completed. The best of all was this morning, when I went to the forum and got the contact and I SMS him and he replied that he has some fire belly newts. I thought that it would be good to find some companions for my lonely 1 fire belly newt. But when I visited him, I realised that what he has was fire belly paddletail.
So I think that fire belly newt is impossible to find in Singapore now. What is available is only fire belly paddletail and the fire belly toad.
Now I will not entertain PM or SMS regarding sale of these or where you can find them, I can only say that you can find them only if you look hard enough like I did and if you do buy these creatures, please do your research well and take good care of them, they are really beautiful creatures.

Hi jinnjuan
Actually we are talking about baby bullfrogs , they actually made good pet! I like their lustrous green and watch how this frog swallow the live huge crickets ! Lol!
I went to our National Library and I managed find one book which gives good information about the toads. I also scanned the related pages (only 5 pages) and complied it into a PDF. PDF is uploaded to mediafire.

I realised that my stainless steel wire mesh has too small gaps which the frog must have escaped from. So I now I just put the normal acrylic cover which totally enclosed the top except for a central hole for air.
wow bro! thanks so much for the wonderful info, you 're the best!
