What do you mean web running? I actually cycle the tank for 1 month and to speed up bacteria growth, I added microbelife niteout II to help.

nice set up and all the best in keeping the shrimps... they look really very nice in the environment...

i think you have water lettuce and duckweed in your tank.. try to remove those duckweed (smaller leaf ones) those are kind of a pest instead of helping to suck nitrates, you might be having a surface full of duckweed to clear especially they reproduce very fast...

    Re: Sharing my CRS setup

A couple of comments/questions and please take it constructively.

Ceramic rings - that's the first time I see them used this way. Interesting idea and logic being....?

Pre-filter - how effective is that in minimizing maintenance on your eheim?

Duckweed - junk that. It will over-run and out-grow those mini-lettuce and a PITA to get rid of.

Mesh - the setup is simple and nicely done but it will look better without the mesh. Try tying the US fissidens onto a driftwood or something more natural looking.

Haha, yup I'm trying to remove them, they are starting to annoy me as it's over growing very fast....

    Re: Sharing my CRS setup

    Hi Ron,

Ceramic rings - that's the first time I see them used this way. Interesting idea and logic being....?
The ceramic rings are just acting as a substrate for me, just another media to help breed more bacteria.

Pre-filter - how effective is that in minimizing maintenance on your eheim?
Prefilter helps to filter particles so when time comes to washing the filter wools it's easier as I don't need to open the canister because it will take some effort to kick start it if you open your canister and air goes in.

Duckweed - junk that. It will over-run and out-grow those mini-lettuce and a PITA to get rid of.
I agree, duckweed is starting to over grow and it's kinda annoying.

Mesh - the setup is simple and nicely done but it will look better without the mesh. Try tying the US fissidens onto a driftwood or something more natural looking.
Did some on drift woods too. it's all hanging on the surface edge of my tank if you can notice.

Hanging??? Sorry, no, I didn't notice but hmm... there's only one uncle I know who hang his guinea pigs on tank rims

Another thing I forgot to ask... what's the brand of the pre-filter? It appears to have a COČ inlet at the intake (between sponge and green plastic tubing). If that being the case, COČ diffusion is gonna be pretty awesome. I want one too!!

Edit: Oh... just saw your updated pics. What are you using for the guinea pigs?
